Television watching autism
Does tv watching have anything to do with autism ? ; recently I have been seeing this trend that nearly every child who comes to me the treatment of Autism spectrum disorder has something strange in his history of development. Most parents , when asked about the tv watching hours , sheepishly confess that it was nearly 3 -8 hrs daily and even more . This between the Ages of 7 months to 3 yr . What link it has with autism , I am not sure about it , but it certainly there is something.
Yes, as a father of ADHD son, I do confess that it definitely matters. While we think, child will learn something out of seeing the TV is one side(it is remote, as these kids are not seeing those channels where they can learn something out of the programme), other side, to make the child sit before the TV and not do any mischief and be able to attend to their things could be another reason. As we see the kind of programmes are being telecasted, is more of violent natured and these kids easily copy it as they are like wet cement.

My son A.Kumar, age 12 years, now studying 5th Std is an autistic child. Upto his 7 years he was hyperactive and not interested in learing. One day I have visited an exhibition where I have seen the Education CD demo(Apple Tree VCD for Kids). I have introduced this VCD to my son and after a few months I observed that he learnt interestingly the contents of VCD(KG Level basic concepts). I have also introduced this to some other autistic child and noticed that the light, pictures, colours attract the autistic child and they interestingly learn with pictures, light and colour. As the autistic children are right brain people they are more interested in picture way and practical way learning. In my practical experience It is true that the autistic children learn more information by watching TV, Educational CDs, Picture Books ,Paintings and Tourism. Homeopathic medication + Special Education + Education CDs + Simple Sports(helps in the co-ordnation of left and right side organs and stimulate of neuro-muscular based activities)+Intensive visit/tour to new places such as park, departmental stores,Railway Station, ports, airports, beaches, bus travel, colleges, schools, temples, hill stations, zoo, botanic gardens,museums, Cinema etc) improves the autistic children a lot. They learn a lot by practical situations not from text books.
