High Uric Acid Levels?
Do you have high uric acid levels in your blood? If so then there are chances that if it goes unchecked you might end up suffering from Gout. Gout is a disease that affects the joints .This disease in earlier days was also called as the ?disease of the kings ?because it was associated with overindulgence in drinks and rich food.
But it is not so nowadays, it can strike anyone; men being more at risk than women.
What is uric acid? How does uric acid levels increase in our blood and what precautions can be taken to avoid it? Uric acid is a waste product in our body and is eliminated by our kidneys. Uric acid is produced from the breakdown of a certain kind of a substance known as purine. This substance also produced in our body and is also present in some of the food that we eat. Uric Acid increases due to mainly three conditions? firstly if there is an over production of uric acid in our body(some situations like fasting, strenuous exercising and crash dieting)., secondly if there is a decreased removal of uric acid by the kidneys; thirdly if one takes excess amounts of food which are high in purine.
Foods high in purines which should be avoided by those who are having levels of uric acid are ? quite a few of the non vegetarian food, lentils (dals), whole grains, peas, cauliflower, and mushroom. Alcohol intake slows down the removal of uric acid. Being overweight also adds to the increased levels. A simple blood test (serum uric acid) at a local lab can be good enough for an evaluation.
What is Gout and how does a high level of uric acid in blood lead to gout? Gout is an inflammatory condition of the joint .Gout results in an inflammation of the joint. This is due deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint spaces and or in the connective tissue of the joints. It is a very painful condition causing swelling redness heat pain and stiffness of the joint. Deposits of uric acid, called tophi can appear as lumps under the skin around the joints. Gout mainly affects the big toe but it can affect other joints like gout instep, ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows
Increased uric acid is not a disease and by itself is not dangerous. However, if excess uric acid levels lead to formation of crystals between the joints, gout can develop. In some individuals excess levels also lead to formation of kidney stones. Please remember not all who have high levels of uric acid, develop gout.

About 2-yrs. back, my orthopaedic doctor gave me some medicine which caused high uric acid in my blood resulting into swelling my feet & face. Then my regular house physician suggested to stop the medicine & asked me to take Zyrolic-100mg – 1 tab daily. The swelling got subsidised. Continued for 2 months & then stop.
again now, i have noticed some swelling at my ankle & feet. Also my elbow joints pain. May be my uric acid level has again gone up. What do I do ? Should I again start Zyrolic or you would reccommend some Homeopathic medciine ? If so, kindly suggest. Await your reply ASAP.

Exactly i dont know what illness i have? day by day my bones are been weaker. According to my age it shouldnt be espically i have pain in joint. Dr., Uric Acid levels always above 9 since 10 years. Now tophi are developing on my ear lobes. my mother got through the serum uric acid test ..and it is 6.4 mg/dl…and her serum cholesterol is 261.0 mg/dl and ldl cholesterol is 181.2….doctor has said that it is gout and hs advised tablets like gudloric , flenlor, coneiras and capsule hosit plus…..please tell me what to do…shud she stick to these medicines..or she go for the homeopathic treatment….please advise me something as early as possible…i’ll be waiting for your reply….

Since Jan 2007, I am having gout problem. The uric acid level used to be 7.6 mg.
I have been getting attacks after every 2-3 month. I have tried Zyloric but the re is no permanent solution. Now I have shifted to homeopathy. I have taken medicene for a month & I don’t get pain. Dear Doctor, Once about 6-7 years ago, i suddenly got my left leg toe(big finger joint) pain and little swelling and even cloth cannot touch the finger. When i consulted an Ortho, he got my blood tested for Uric Acid level which has not crossed the maximum limit. May be around 3.85 as against the maximum of 5. He concluded it as a case of Gout which is the result of excess uric acid in the blood and adviswed me not to use cerels mainly apart from high protein food. I got first attack of uric acid in the year 2002 and after that it came yearly or bi-yearly. After 2006 it came back in the year 2009 and now in 2010 again it attacked on my left toe. My uric acid level is now 7.6 and the attack time is around March. I would like to mention here that I use to go on jogging daily for 4 km and do exercise and also practice yoga and pranayam since 2006. I also reduced my weight to 10 kg. When I get up in the morning, I drink 4 glasses of luke-warm water and I also drink water one hour after meal. I don’t eat any item cold in nature in the night. Sir, Iam 24 years old man with high blood pressure. I have diaognised with high blood pressure before one month only. i have checked my blood pressure before six months but it is normal. But before one month it sudddenly rise to 230/130 mm of hg. Many blood test, urine test, abdomen ultrasound etc. i have undergone.
