PROLAPSED DISC & HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT
PAIN in the back due to a “slipped disc” (also called herniated disc) can be very agonizing and can affect one’s life in many ways. It can affect even the essential movements like sitting, standing and walking; causing sharp shooting pain in the problem area. In severe cases, relentless pain can occur even with simple movements, causing one to lie down in one position for hours and days at a time.
Homoeopathic treatment can be very effective in both acute and chronic cases of the slipped disc problem. It can even be a big boon for the patients as it can save advanced cases from the surgeon’s knife.
What exactly is slipped disc and how can it cause such pain? Our spine comprises of mainly the bones (vertebrae), the discs and the spinal cord. Bones (vertebrae) are stacked one on top of each other to form the backbone. Through these vertebrae passes the spinal cord. Discs are a kind of cushions that are positioned between two vertebrae. They act as a shock absorber in the spine. These discs are round and flat in shape and are made up of tough outer covering which surrounds a jelly-like material called nucleus.
Although the slipping of the disc can occur due to a trauma like over-stretching or lifting weight, etc, it is difficult to pinpoint one single cause for it. This problem often occurs due to gradual degeneration of the disc and is related to the aging process. Gradually, over a period of time, as we age, the discs lose their water content, and the outer shell as well as the inner nucleus become stiffer and brittle. As the discs wear out, their outer covering becomes more prone to getting torn. The problem occurs when the outer covering of the discs get torn and the nucleus moves out to irritate the nerve passing by. The pain can be felt in the back, hips or even legs. This is called as slipped disc.
Although this problem can occur anywhere in the backbone, the lumbar area (lower back area) is more prone to it.
Homoeopathic treatment of slipped disc is usually based on the symptoms that are presented in an individual case. For example, in an individual with the “slipped disc” pain travelling down to the leg, the homoeopathic medicine prescribed will be different from an individual who has pain confined to the back.![]()

I AM A PATIENT WHO IS SUFFERING WITH THE PAIN- CERVICAL DISC PROLAPSE FOR PAST COUPLE OF MONTHS.
After my son, Vikas, was born,in B’lore, 25 yrs back i had severe pain in the legs,-a sort of cramps coming up very often. When my daughter, Vaishnavi, was born 20 yrs back in Mumbai ,they ( in a different hospital, in a different city), they discovered that the whole cotton bundle that was left inside and stitched up..it was in a highly decayed state making some nurses vomit due to the stench…( both C- section). But my daughter came out fine. The severity of the pain lessened to an extent in my legs but continued to be there. And i too did not know its consequence later on …i used to lift heavy things, work a lot and be very active in so much as my legs allowed.
But the last 6 yrs , i developed severe sciatica and now am not able to lie down, sit comfortably, walk a few paces, climb steps, walk barefoot….please Doctor i feel u can help me out.. I am keeping my fingers crossed for your mail….Thank you,
with regards,

Dear Sir,
I am suffering from Scitica pain. From MRI scan it has been found that I have l5-s1 disc bulging and narrowing of canal which might be causing compression of nerve root.
This is mainly due to lifting of very heavy load without proper balance. The bulging of l5-s1 disc (herniated) probably causing the compression of nerve root. I do not have any back pain. Only lower hip, thigh muscles (back side) and cup muscle (back side) have muscular pain (hamstring type). I have taken several allopathic medicine, like, gabaneuron, gabapentin, pregabalin (150 mg), benphase forte, methyl cobalamine etc.
In homeopathic side I have started now taking W.H.1M/1+saclac 0/3/1 dv. as prescibed by our local Homeopathy doctor here (Dr. B. K. jana) on 12/5/09. But the pain still continues.
I have taken bed rest of about one month. But still I am suffering from pain at the lower hip down to back thigh muscles and leg cup muscles (back side of the leg).
I feel less pain while lying down in bed or siting staright on chair. While walking or standing I feel lots of nero-muscular pain at the lower hip and back side of thigh (hamstring type) and back side of ower leg cup.
Intially I had some problem with less sensation near smallest fingure of the feet. Now I am getting it O.K.
However, hamstring type muscle pain still continues.
Please suggest some homeopathic medicine and exercise/yoga/natural medicine.
I will be grateful to you. My Life is becoming miserable
due to this sciatica pain. I cannot walk much or stand for longer time.
Thanking you.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. T. K. Nath

My boyfriend was in a car accident a few years ago. We know he has a compressed disc, L4 and L5. HIs pain is severe and will last at times two – three weeks. He is a plumber and find himself pulling his back out often. He has shooting pain down his leg , but not all the time. Most of the time he has a stabbing pain in his lower back on his left side. When he stands he is crooked , as if leaning to the side. He finds relief with an ice pack although he can’t seem to get comfortable. Traditional doctors have offered pain meds and recommended surgery. This last episode he had I gave him hypericum and arnica and seemed to get him on his feet sooner than past times, three days instead of three weeks . Is there another remedy I should be using and what potency should he have I gave hyper 1m and arnica 50m?
i am having scitica on my right side leg due to disc prolapse at l 4/5 .i could not walk long distance and also could not stand properly.please advise me

Dear Doctor,
My name is Zubaida, 45 years old, presently living in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. I had back pain and disc related complaints since last 13 years. I had used many anti inflammatory pills during the last several years. Though I got instant pain relief, the problems were escalating. At last, i had switched over from allopathic to alternative medicines and as a result I feel much better to my illness. Recently, again I got the back pain and muscle spasms while trying to stand from sitting posture. In the MRI report it says, I have disc prolapse in L5/S1, loss of normal lordosis noted due to muscle spasms, central canal stenosis is noted, and as well disc degeration and dehydration are found.
I have been advised to take Mag.phos and Formica Rufa to treat my complaints. I am writing this to get a second opinion from your side. Will the dehydrated discs become rehydrated through homeopathic medicines?
Thank you for your response.
Dear Dr,
My wife is suffering from this pain starting from her lower back to hind thighs and then down to her calf and leg in the left leg the x ray shows reduced disk space in L5 S1.It is causing her a lot of discomfort and mostly bed ridden and on pain killers, a homeopathic doctor has prescribed hypericum and rhus tox. its been more than a month and there seems to be no respite kindly advice for fast relief.
thanking u in anticipation.
I had a severe pain in my back on 10th July 2009 while going to my workplace. After returning back home I found that even slight movement causes acute pain. The MRI report says there is protrusion in S1L5 region. I have been on conservative treatment since then and have been prescribed medicines like ‘mobijoint’ and’ ob-cal’. I have been doing trhee yoga asanas lying straight on my back (one of them is naditan asana). Kindly suggest me a good homeopathic medicine for drying up that protruded pulp. I am commuting to my workplace by lying down on the back seat of the car to avoid jerks.
I have recently been diagnosed with Herniated Disc in the L4-L5 and Disc bulge in the L5-S1. I am a believer in homeopathy and am pretty sure I can be cured by homeopathy. Would appreciate your advice.
Thanks!

Hi Doc,
Here are my symptoms and results.
I have numbness in my right leg. and Lower back pain.
Doctor advise me for surgery.
My MRI reults are:
(According to Tech Team)
MRI of the lumbar spine.
Technique: a routine MRI of the Lumbar spine was carried out.
FINDINGS.
Th central spinal canal is congentially small due to short pedicles.
There are superimmposed disc degenerative changes at the levels of L1-L2 and L2-L3, with signs of disc desiccation. At L1-L2, there is posterior disc bulging resulting in mild to moderate central spinal narrowing, The neuroformina are patent.
At L2-L3, there is posterior disc bulging and hypertrophic changes of the facet joints and ligamenta flava resulting in severe central spinal canal stenosis with signs of compression of the dural sac and nerve rootsof the cauda equina. The neuroforamina are patent.
The levels of L3-L4, L4-L5 and L5-S1 demonstrate normal morphology of the intervertebral discs. There is no evidence of significant abnormality at these levels.
The conus medullaris is seen at the level of T12-L1. Thereis no evidence of paravertebral abnormality.
CONCLUSION:
There is a congenitally small central spinal canal with superimposed disc degenerative changes at L1-L2 and L2-L3.
Please suggest is there any treatment for this in homeopathy or should i go for surgery.
Thanks

Dear Sir
I’ve been also advised by my cousin who lives in Punjab, India to visit India in the event, I’m advised to have surgery and inevitably, it has become the case.
I really don’t know what to do. I need to complete my degree in engineering and this problem threatens to end my career, if not treated soon. I need to restart by october.
I recently went to see the neuro surgeon who would be operating on me and he told me that I had no other option. The MRI scans were before me, which he explained; the bulging disc, which is causing the deep pain from my lower back down my sciatic nerve of my left leg.
The surgeon also mentioned that, my condition will deterioate, in that, my left leg will waste and I will get drop foot also. Statistics show that surgery is very reliable. However the risks, even if very low, are serious and also it may not always recover the pain completely.
Personally, I would rather avoid surgery at all costs but, I have now tried physiotherapy, accupuncture and consulted an orthopedic doctor, who also advised me to have surgery (and his job is to refrain his patients from surgery) saying that I have excess scar tissue and treatment with him would become very expensive and still only recover me 50% and end up in me having surgery.
So, if you have so much confidence and guarantee in curing my condition, please let me know asap, as I’m currently on the waiting list for an operation and your site had just caught my eyes today. NB, I am currently taking ‘tramadol’ medication to stabilize my pain from being too unbearable.
Hope to hear from you soon

Dear sir ,
I Mr. Prakash Kushare suffering from Scitica pain.
Pl. suggest the homeopathic medicine to cure it.
Thanks and regards

My self and my elder brother both are sufferning back lower hip pain since one year wich is leading to left leg from past 1 month…. MRI scan reports are
My (Satya) MRI:
-Discal bulge, small broad based central protrusion at l4-l5 with mild pressure over traversing roots.
-Discal bulge, broad based central, bilateral paracentral extrusion at l5-s1 with compression of thecal sac; bilateral traversing roots (more on to left side).
- Discal protrusion at c6-c7 with thecal compression.
My Elder brother MRI:
-Degeneratie disc disease of l5/s1 intervertebral disc.
-Osseous spinal canal stenosis at l4 and l5 vertebral levels.
-At l5/s1 intervrtebral disc there is severe compresomise of the spinal canal, leftsevere and right moderate neuroforaminal stenosis due to diffuse bulging of the disc with large left paracentral extrusion of the disc further compounded by facet joint arthropathy and ligamentum flavum hypertrophy.
These are the rports sir, We dont want to go for surgery and not interesting to use engish medicines….. please suggest me….

moderate(grade 2) anterolisthesis of L5 over S1
this is the case of a six year old baby . rest lumbo sacral spine show straightening.L5 S1 intervertebral disk shows desiccation, diffuse bulge and reduced height. bulging disk and anterolisthesis are causing moderate stenosis of bilatral neural foramina. malaligned vertebrae are causing compression of thecal sac and spinal canal stenosis at L5 S1 level( AP canal diameter 5mm). pls suggest the proper therapy for treatment or is surgery is the last opption.

Dear Doctor Saab,
I am having nasal allergy from past 8-to-9 years esp. from dust and gradually it developed into Sinus inflammation.
Presently, I am suffering from blocked nose condition throughout the year and it aggravates in winters. It further culminated into some breathing difficulty around mid-nights esp. during the onset of winter season.
During summers, whiff of dust through air irritates my nasal passage and creates a stuffy nose after that.
Kindly suggest some immediate relief and also indicate what is my problem all
about.

Hi I am 44yrs old, I woke up one morning approx five months ago unable to move my beck and with a sore shoulder. I saw a Gp and physio and was miss diagnosed with a shoulder injury. After continued physio with strapping to my shoulder, accupuncture and numerous anti- inflammatory and pain tablets I finally saw a ortho specialist who did and MRI and Diagnosed a prolasped disc at C6. Over this time i have had worsening symptoms with severe pain in my neck and shoulder blade along with severe pins and needlw down my right arm to my thumb and weakness t the same arm. I have now had 2 lots of cortisone injections and am seeing an osteopath. I have had reduced pins and needles and weaknes but still get pain in my neck and shoulder especially when sitting. The surgeon is talking about a fusion which I really don’t want. How many more cortisone injections can I have? the last one was close to the vertabral artery I was told so couldn’t get to exactly where they wanted. I have 3 young children and am finding it hard.

Respected Doc
My wife (55 yrs) has weak bone strength. She had slipped about 6 years back resulting in traumatic compression collapse of D12 vertebral body and had to take bed rest for 2 months. She was also suffering from pain in the lumber zone and hip for a few years. BMD test indicated Osteoporosis (z score of AP spine is – 3.6). Usual Allopathic medicine for supply of Calcium etc started. About 1 year back she also had severe diarrhea. With High ESR (95) and CRP (27) she was diagnosed with IBD which was confirmed after Colonoscopy, Endoscopy and Biopsy. Blood IBD profile (p ANCA and ASCA etc) indicated Crohn’s disease. Allopathic treatment was not much useful so homeopathy was started about 5 months back. While IBD seems to be under check, the hip and lower back pain could not be controlled at all and she finds it extremely difficult to turn in the bed while going to toilet in the night. As such her whole body pain is unbearable and she can not even walk. Orthopedic suggestion is to take calcium only. Neurologist suggested MRI of LS spine and it showed today the following:
1. Lumber spondylosis with degenerative disc disease.
2. L3-L4, L4-L5 and L5-S1 bulging disc
We have faith in homeopathy. Local Dr had prescribed Medorrhium, Nat Sulf, Lachesis & Pulsatilla during last 5 months. We plan to visit a very renowned homeopathic doctor now.
Please advise us if Homeopathy can be of help in this case and what may be the prognosis.
Thanks and Regards

For an article titled ‘PROLAPSED DISC & HOMEOPATHIC TREATMENT’ , it describes the prolapsed disc well (95% or more of the article), but sadly nothing of the homeopathic treatment, or how and where it acts for the disc is mentioned, which is expected in an article specific to homeopathy.

I am suffering from Scitica pain. Iam taking homeo medicines for the past six months. Though certain problems kike shocking pain in the right leg, lower back pain have been found better , now i was suffered from numness in my right feet (heal 7 fingers) for that too i am taking medicines from my Homeo Doctor. From MRI scan as per a Ortho Doctor’s advice, it has been found that I have circumferential disc bulge with large postero central disc extrusion at L4/L5 level with extruded disc material measuring 11x10x21 mm(APxMLxCC) lying alond the dorsal wall of L5 vertebral body causing marked spinal canal stenosis and thecal sac nerve roots impingement. the residual AP cananl diameter at this level measures 2-3 mm only. Circumferential disc bulge at L5/S1 level causing mild ventral thecal sac compression and bilateral s1 nerve root indentation. The ortho doctor advised me for a Surgery i spine. But I am not willing for that. I do have slight back pain. Lower hip, thigh muscles (back side) and cup muscle (back side) have muscular pain (hamstring type).
I have taken bed rest of about one month. But still I am suffering from pain at the lower hip down to back thigh muscles and leg cup muscles (back side of the leg).

Dear Doctor, I am 36 years Indian residing in Dubai. For the past 8 months i have been experiencing on and off neck pain. I have had an xray and the doctor mentioned its muscle spasms and with regular exercise it should go away. However the pain became unbearable and I have had an MRI. As per the report and Doctor’s diagnosis, I am suffering from Cervical Disc Prolapse and this is causing immense pain in my neck, below right shoulder area and right arm. Due to terrifying pain have been prescribed heavy medication and however my body seems immune to any pain killers and I am suffering from sleepless nights. I have received opinion from a neurosurgeon to go for surgery as the only option and I would really like to look for alternative non surgical options, homeopathy, physio, ayurvedic etc…would you be able to recommend anything.
I have been in a car accident 6 years ago and dint sustain any injuries
I have had one osteopath session three months ago
I did one horse riding in Kashmir in August this year and besides this my work has been pretty much computer oriented as i have been in a desk job. There is lack of exercise
Just to give you some historic information should this be helpful.
Appreciate your time and awaiting your response
Yours sincerely,

suffering with bulging of L5S1 disc and L4-5 kindly suggest me to curb this problem and how to control this degeneration of disc
Dear Sir,
I am suffering from Scitica pain.
Thanking you
