Pigmentation and its Homeopathic Treatment
Facial discoloration is asymptomatic (without any symptoms) but is of great cosmetic concern, resulting in psychological stress. The most common reasons are pregnancy and exposure to sun. During pregnancy the hormone level can increase the body’s production of melanin, a pigment that tints the skin.
The result is chloasma (also known as melasma or the mask of pregnancy), irregular brown patches on t he forehead, nose, and checks. Women with darker complexions are more prone to developing chlosma. Other pigmented areas, such as birthmarks and freckles, may darken as well. One may also notice a brown line down the abdomen, from the belly button to the public bone, called linea nigra.
Most of these pigmented areas lighten again a few months after delivery, though they may not clear up completely. It is also common in pregnant women, those who are taking oral contraceptives (the “Pill”), and those taking hormone replacement therapy during menopause. Sun exposure is also a strong risk factor for melasma. It is particularly common in tropical climates.
Sepia (homeopathic medicine) is of utmost importance in treating discoloration occurring after pregnancy. In fact, it is apt for what one would call a post-pregnancy syndrome ? a brownish saddle like appearance spreading across the nose, backache, easily fatigued constitution, heightened mental sensitivity and irritability. Other medicines that are important in treatment are arsenic album and conium maculatum.
Sun-damaged skin or sunspots, medically called lentigos, and commonly referred to as liver spots, are a product of sun exposure. This exposure is cumulative and not directly related to sunburn on a specific day.
Homeopathy does not advocate the use of creams and ointments in skin disorders. It believes that skin disorders are a reflection of inside and need to be treated from within. Another strong opinion that homeopaths propagate is that any external application can lead to the suppression of the disease and result in a more serious systemic disorder. A well-prescribed homeopathic medicine not only takes care of hyperpigmentation but also treats as a whole and improves general health as well.
Homoeopathic medicines treat the hormonal imbalance and thus control the excessive production of melanin. The texture of the skin also improves. The occurrences of new patches reduce and ultimately stop. The skin slowly reverts to its normal condition without leaving any blemishes.
General precautions for people suffering from hyperpigmentation: stay out of the sun so that these areas don’t darken even more. If you can’t avoid the sun, wear hats, cover up. Along with it, eat a well-balanced diet, avoid cosmetics, avoid direct exposure of skin to sunlight and please do not self-medicate.

I am 50yrs old,and I am fro Malaysia. About 10 yrs ago there was a dark patch on my chin and slowly it started spreading all over the face. Finaly the whole face was an even dark colour. This whole process took about nine months. I thought then the process ended.
Then slowly another dark pigmentation curtain started from my forehead, slowly down my whole face. This has been going on for ten years now. No itching was noted.
Lately the pigmentation started travelling to the neck, arm chest and my abdomen. Uncontrolable itching on the chest. Please help. Have not tried any western medicine, but have done peeling and sun block, to no avail. Have actually given up hope, attributing the whole thing as fate.
My classmates cant even recognise me, if not for my voice. I normally apply foundatation when i go out. I saw your site, and i thought i will write in and try.

I visited to homeopthic doctor n he advised me with arscenium album 30 and apis mellifica 30 which i have to have alternate days. But there is not much of improvment yet. I am 36 years old, having pigmentation from last 12yrs. I m having black dark pigments on both of my arms, face, around the neck and back. Since last five year I have consulted several skin specialist and used many types of skin creams like melalong, melalite, melacare etc. Inspite of less sun exposure, continous applying of cream and also recently undergone four chemical (salicylic acid) peels, but still only 10-15% improvement is visible.
Please suggest me somthing to cure and upto what extend it will be cured. If, it is curable then how long it will take.

i am currently about five weeks pregnant. Is it safe for me to use Hyclean Cream for my dark spots (acne marks). and i am also using very light Adapalene and Clindamycin Phosphate Gel (acne spots). I bought these two meds from India, recommeded from Dermatologist and both med worked really good when i had bad acne. Now that i am pregnant.just want to make sure if i should continue using these meds,will it effect the fetus? or should i discontinue?

i think there is no treatment for melasma or hyper pigmentation. it may be due to some genetic disorder.it runs in some families. eventhough laser treatment is somewhat effective the pigmentation reappear after 2-3 months. waste of time and waste of money.it is better to have a masking makeup than to undergo useless treatment. hyperpigmentation cream avilable in the market are wastes .so try to bear the discomfort . the theory that the causes of melasma in males are hormone change and sunexposure is baseless. i dont have much sun exposure and my hormone profile is perfect. but i am a victim of melasma and so called melasma therapy for the last 7 years[my age is 46 years]

I’ve been suffering for hyper pigmentation on my face for a long time almost three years and during these years I’ve undergone treatment with various skin doctors but intermittantly and after using the medicine regularly I didn’t find any improvement, rather it increase the affected areas.

I had a rhinoplasty one and half year ago. immediately after operation my nose of swollen on one side (bump on left side). Doctor told me to massage it properly. But till now it has not goten its proper shape. Due to excess massage on one side, that area became black. later I had to take 5 sittings to minimise the discoloration. Now it is improved but still somewhat dark. Please sugest me any homeopathic medicine to treat facial hyperpigmentation. and also tell how much can it improve it.

In year 2006 dermatologist here in USA prescribed a skin-whitening cream named “Tri_luma” which contains hydroquinone and Retin-A, to treat a small dark spot on forehead. My entire face got dark (especially forehead and cheeks). My face looks black, but my body is lighter in complexion.
I have tried several natural remedies to get back my color (like almondt-milk paste, orange peel, chandan-haldi paste et) Nothing worked. My friends and family are shocked to see me and they ask me “what happend to your face. Some think it looks like burnt skin. I read several research articles where Tri-Luma goes and changes message at RNA-level to produce melanin. Tri-Luma is lightening cream, yet one in million would have just the opposite reaction by causing permanent blue-black discoloration.
Do you have any answer or remedy for my skin color.

just read your article,it was really informative for patients suffering from pigmantaion problem.infact i have such type of problem from the last 6 years,i am living in uk amd presently under treatment with a dermotologist.i found the treatment very effective.my husband himself is a surgeon and did his training from pgi chd.canyou prescribe sum medicine to me or i can see you as i am frequent visit india and especialy pgi chd as i spent 6 years there.

My son is doing X std. He is not having interest in studies. He wakes up in the morning very late. Even if I wake him up ,he does not get up from bed immediately.I have to shout many times and he is not interested to get rid of from the sleep.If I ask him to go for a small walking to get rid off from sleep, he do not go out saying it is cool outside. He takes lot of time for bathing and eating also. In the night, he sleep for one or two hours at about 7.00p.m to 9.00 p.m. and I have to wake him up for studies. Then, he sleeps in the late night around 2.00a.m. only. This is his regular habit. In the holidays, he sleeps even up to 11 a.m.. He eat food and again sleep. He does not bother about his studies.
