There are para nasal sinuses (air – filled spaces) located inside the cheek bones, forehead, behind the bridge of nose and between the eyes. These can get inflamed from infection or from allergies. As a result they swell, become congested with mucus and can not drain properly resulting in pressure build up and pain which is referred to as sinus headache. Symptoms

Person having sinus headache may feel fullness pressure or pain in forehead, in cheeks, bridge of the nose or brows. The affected sinus area can also be tender to touch and red. The pain tends to get worse when first getting up out of bed, from moving your head suddenly and from leaning forward.

Its other symptoms include sinus infection like stuffy  nose, thick, green or yellow coloured mucus discharge from the nose, post nasal discharge (PND), swelling or puffiness of face, fever, aching in the upper jaw, fatigue. In case of infection of frontal sinus pain / pressure is felt in the forehead, above the eyes. In case of maxillary sinus involvement pain or pressure is felt in the cheek area. In ethmoidal sinusitis pain occurs between / behind the eyes, and the sides of the upper nasal area (medial canthi). When sphenoidal sinus is affected pain appears behind eyes, top of head or back of head.

2. Kali Bichrome – For Headache, Nasal Blockage, Nasal Discharge, Post Nasal Discharge  

Kali Bichrome is another well indicated medicine for these cases. Persons needing it complain of headaches in the forehead especially over one of the eyes. They usually feel shooting pains over the eyebrow. Next they can complain of pain in the forehead in the morning on awaking. They feel distress, fullness, severe pain in frontal sinuses. With this they discharge from the eyes and nose. They also feel weak along with this and may also have fever. Another main symptom that they have is post nasal discharge.  Pain, tightness, fullness or pressure sensation at the root of the nose is also felt. 5. Natrum Mur – For Heaviness / Pain in Forehead with Sneezing, Nasal Discharge

This worsens from bending your head down. This sneezing is violent and worse in the early morning. 6. Hydrastis – For Frontal Headache

This medicine is prepared from the fresh root of the plant Hydrastis canadensis. This plant is commonly known as Golden Seal, Orange-root and Yellow Puccoon. This plant belongs to family ranunculaceae. This medicine offers great help in case of frontal headache over the eyes. A main accompanying symptom is dropping of mucus from back of nose into throat (post nasal discharge). In many cases the nose feels stuffed up. There is also discharge of thick, white, yellow or green tenacious, stringy mucus from the nose.

7. Pulsatilla – For Pain in Maxillary Sinus (Cheek), Nasal Stuffiness and Thick Nasal Discharge

This medicine is prepared from plants named Pulsatilla Nigricans commonly known as wind flower or pasque flower. This plant belongs to family ranunculaceae. It is indicated when there is pain in maxillary sinus (located in cheeks), nasal stoppage and thick nasal discharge. The pain in maxillary sinus is tearing in nature that may extend into the ear. 12. Gelsemium – For Pain Over Eyes and Back of Head

This medicine is prepared from the bark of the root of plant Gelsemium Sempervirens commonly known as yellow jasmine. This plant belongs to family loganiaceae. Its use is suggested for cases presenting with pain over eyes and back of head. A sensation of band around the head accompanies. The nasal symptoms that occur with this are sneezing in early morning, fullness at the root of nose and thin watery nasal discharge.
