When people are not able to pass stool daily, they generally assume it to be constipation For many, having a bowel movement daily becomes an obsession. They often go to extremes (taking laxatives etc.) to remediate this situation. It s one of the most common error that one makes when he decides he has such constipation.
Modern medical science has a different view of constipation. Having three bowel movements or fewer per week is considered constipation. While the infrequency of bowel movements is the primary definition of constipation, there are other symptoms of constipation too- like passing hard stool, incomplete evacuation, having to strain too hard and urges that yield no result.
The medical definition of constipation is if any two of the following symptoms are present for a period of twelve weeks or more (whether continuous or not) in the last twelve months.1) Fewer than three stools per week. 2) Hard and difficult stool. 3) Feeling of incomplete evacuation. 4) Having to strain hard at stool 5) sensation of blockage or obstruction in the anus or rectum while passing stool.
Majority of those who are constipated usually have no major underlying cause. It is mostly an outcome of their lifestyle ?wrong eating habits and lack of exercise
What Causes of constipation
To understand as to why constipation occurs, the functioning of colon (large intestine) needs to be understood. Major function of colon is to absorb the water back into the body while forming the waste products. It also pushes the food further into the rectum by contracting itself. Hard stool is formed when the colon (large intestine) absorbs too much of water or when the stools remain for too long in the colon causing increased loss of water from the fecal contents. Infrequent stools occur when the contractions of the colon are slow.
Although there are other medical reasons for having constipation, the prime most reason is not having a healthy lifestyle.eg. Lack of exercise, not having enough of liquids and fiber in diet. Other reasons are medications, irritable bowel syndrome, and phases of life like pregnancy, old age, travel, ignoring bowel urges, paralysis, problems in large intestines and rectum and abuse of laxatives.
Homeopathy for Constipation.
Homeopathic philosophy lays great stress on leading an active and healthy lifestyle while treating such diseases. It also cautions on the use of laxatives. Homeopathy is a ?symptom based system of medicine?. This means that there is no generic drug for constipation. The prescription depends upon symptoms or the causative factors of the constipation.

Sir, I am 32 years old from Pakistan. It’s been more than 6 months I am suffering from constipation. Doctors diagnozed anal fissure which caused blood in a very small amount with and without stool, while defecation. The fissures heal up and then again appear, it continues. The stool is sometime dry but not most of the time. I have the symptom of point 3 and 4 mentioned above (incomplete evacuation and strain). i have chronic constipation nearly40 to 50 years old i am 65 yrs old i do not believe in laxatives staunch believer of homeo at present i am having alumin 200(6globules twice a day } and cascara sag mother tincture 15 drops twice a day since 8 months the doctor who advised me said that my colon was not in a very healthy condition because even though i can feel stool while washing it does not pass inspite of great pressure . kindly advise me although this medicine has benefited me to quite an extent .

I am suffering from severe constipation. Every morning, i do not have the urge to pass the stool. Despite of that, i am taking warm water and do little bit of yoga and thereafter I pass the stool. But the process followed goes in vain as still after passing stool, i felt that there is something left inside my intestine which led to inconsistency throughout the day. My feces are fully water which sticks on the pot. I stopped eating sugar, tea and sweet things due to this stickiness in my stool. Please resolve my issue.
