High Uric Acid Levels?
Do you have high uric acid levels in your blood? If so then there are chances that if it goes unchecked you might end up suffering from Gout. Gout is a disease that affects the joints .This disease in earlier days was also called as the ?disease of the kings ?because it was associated with overindulgence in drinks and rich food.
But it is not so nowadays, it can strike anyone; men being more at risk than women.
What is uric acid? How does uric acid levels increase in our blood and what precautions can be taken to avoid it? Uric acid is a waste product in our body and is eliminated by our kidneys. Uric acid is produced from the breakdown of a certain kind of a substance known as purine. This substance also produced in our body and is also present in some of the food that we eat. Uric Acid increases due to mainly three conditions? firstly if there is an over production of uric acid in our body(some situations like fasting, strenuous exercising and crash dieting)., secondly if there is a decreased removal of uric acid by the kidneys; thirdly if one takes excess amounts of food which are high in purine.
Foods high in purines which should be avoided by those who are having levels of uric acid are ? quite a few of the non vegetarian food, lentils (dals), whole grains, peas, cauliflower, and mushroom. Alcohol intake slows down the removal of uric acid. Being overweight also adds to the increased levels. A simple blood test (serum uric acid) at a local lab can be good enough for an evaluation.
What is Gout and how does a high level of uric acid in blood lead to gout? Gout is an inflammatory condition of the joint .Gout results in an inflammation of the joint. This is due deposition of uric acid crystals in the joint spaces and or in the connective tissue of the joints. It is a very painful condition causing swelling redness heat pain and stiffness of the joint. Deposits of uric acid, called tophi can appear as lumps under the skin around the joints. Gout mainly affects the big toe but it can affect other joints like gout instep, ankles, heels, knees, wrists, fingers, and elbows
Increased uric acid is not a disease and by itself is not dangerous. However, if excess uric acid levels lead to formation of crystals between the joints, gout can develop. In some individuals excess levels also lead to formation of kidney stones. Please remember not all who have high levels of uric acid, develop gout.

I have the problem of increased uric acid level 10mg while testing . I also suffering gout 3-4 times heavy pain at my left foot. Initially I have taken the Zyloric tabs and shifted to homeopathy. Now last one year i have regularly taking the homeopathy medicine and found some reliefs . Dr adviced me to stop taking medicine and i ve stopped . After one month I got a severe pain on the same leg. So i m very much confused with homepathy to goahead.
Also i have high cholesterol levels 240 but after taking homepathy medicne it has been come down drastically. Please advice .

I have Uric Acid I got my blood tested about a few days back & the Uric Acid count was at 8.
The 1st time I was diognosed with Uric Acid was way back in 2003. Initially I had Zyloric for 45 Days. After that the level came down to normal. Then after a lull of over a year & half I again got my blood tested & had marginal Uric Acid, here on recommendation of some senior colleague in office I shifted to homeopathy. The Doctor prescribed me Berberis Pentarkan (WSI Ptk. Nr15) 1 tab 3 times & Eucalyptus Q 10 drops three times. Post having these mediciene I was fine & levels where under control, till a few days back.
I have again re-started the above medicine.
Would be grateful if you could prescribed me a balance diet which I should religiously follow. Till date the Doctors have given me a generic answer to what I should eat & not eat, no one has been specific, I am a non-vegeterian.
Please help me by prescribing a specific diet & whether the medicine which I have re stated is ok or not.

we were provided with soya milk at the jim. getting inspiration from there i started regular consumption of soya beans. after suffering from the problem of small stones in my kidney i was asked to get my uric acid tested. it has been over six months now and my uric acid is always above 6. i suffer pain in my back sometimes . sir plz suggest me the diet i should consume and any other required information

Uric acid was first diagnosed to me last year and I was advised Zyloric 100. This year a friend of mine advised me to switch to Homeo medicine and told me the following medicine
- Berberis Pentarkan (WSI Ptk. Nr15) 1 tab 3 times

I want you advise on it. Should I start this and stop Zyloric? How long I have to take this medicine?

Dear Doctor , I’m 54 yrs.old , has a normal body weight & I exercise regularly . For the past years I have been diagnosed with high uric acid because of constant pain in the ankles/feet joints and was prescribed with medication . For more than a year now I stopped the medication because the pain subsided maybe because of my regular exercise & my regulated intake of purine rich food ; Three months ago, my left 2nd finger started to lock from the base & after a week it became painful and I couldn’t bend it ; After a month, the same thing happened to my right middle finger and both have not been normal since then . Is it a case of rheumatoid arthritis? Do I really have to take medication to treat this? Right now I still exercise regularly ( mild muscle toning & aerobic exercise on alternating days ) & I completely stopped drinking alcohol & my intake of purine rich food . This is regarding my mother who is 56 yeards old. She is going in for CRF now. she had hypertension on and off for which she was taking some homeo and ayurvedic med for a few yeards but the main issues staretd 3 years back when she got acute episode of UTI from then she started having chillls and fever and weight loss. She used to be unwell and she had recurrent UTIs untill this year in April her creat increased to 3.2 for that doctors started Allopurinol for that she developed severe drug allergy and was in ICU for a month getting treated with steroids. Her creat incased to 4.5 but aagain settled to 3.5. Hoever, two months back one of her neck nodes came positive for TB. So they started with anti TB drugs. She again developed drug allergy to ‘Isoniazid’. So she is now for last 2 months on anti TB treatment with RIfampicin, Ethambutol, Leveflox and pyrizinamide…her creat has increased to 4.5, liver enzymes are normal, However, she has severe itching, Kyrle’s like rashes, her uric acid has increased to 8.5 and she Hb is 8.2. She is taking Eprex ( erythropoietin) for her Hb. in 15 days she may be stopped on Pyrizinamide and she will continue with only Rifampicin and Levoflox and ethambutol.
As you are aware, the TB treatment will continue however, is there any thing homeopathy can help without interfering with her present treatment?

I am suffering from HIGH URIC ACID from last 10 years. For years I took zyloric tablets initially I use to take 1 tablet 100mg after dinner then dr. advised me to increase the doze to 200mg. After taking this medicine for years I shifted to homeopathy for months together. When I take medicine either zyloric or homeopathy I am ok it remains at 7 – 7.5 if I reduce the doze it will go around 9. From last 2 months I am taking Berberis pentarkan 2 tablets twice a day still my uric acid is high. Pls. Pls advise me the permanent treatment for the same. I am suffering from uric acid for last 4 years and now I am 27 yr old, till than it attacked me near about 5 time in my left big toe joint.
The only medicine I use to take is zyrolic (150 mg) thrice a day when ever I am under attack. After taking the medicine for two to three days in the mentioned mode I usally get relief and then after I stop taking medicine. My father also got the problem of uric acid from 1984 (now he is 61 yr old).I don’t have any other history of uric acid in my family.
I must conface that I am over weight, but now a days I am taking care of my weight, and I have lost 11 kgs of body weight, but still I need to loose more 20 kgs to get the standard body weight.
My uric acid level normally stays between 7.0 – 9.0 mg.

I am sending this mail to seek to advise on high Uric acid in blood last measures a week ago 9.6 mg/dl against 7.0 max. I have found it in ascending order i.e. last year in May 2008 it was 8.7 mg/dl both results from the same scale in same lab & technician.
I am afraid it should not give rise to another problems like Gout etc. I am worried. I have procured some Homeopathic medicines. I will provide details.

M age of 34+ and M suffering from uric acid since Oct’2008. Since then using zyloric on regular basis. The level is now at lower side but still having some pain on fingure and also reast power for both the hand is reduced in comparision to earlier.

About 2-yrs. back, my orthopaedic doctor gave me some medicine which caused high uric acid in my blood resulting into swelling my feet & face. Then my regular house physician suggested to stop the medicine & asked me to take Zyrolic-100mg – 1 tab daily. The swelling got subsidised. Continued for 2 months & then stop.

Dear Doctor, Once about 6-7 years ago, i suddenly got my left leg toe(big finger joint) pain and little swelling and even cloth cannot touch the finger. When i consulted an Ortho, he got my blood tested for Uric Acid level which has not crossed the maximum limit. May be around 3.85 as against the maximum of 5. He concluded it as a case of Gout which is the result of excess uric acid in the blood and adviswed me not to use cerels mainly apart from high protein food. Similar conditon occured hardly once or twice in a year and aftertaking some pain kiler tabs. 1 or 2 days, it would come down. This time about 15 days ago i got the same pain on the left toe and the toestarted swelling with redness and i consulted an ortho who suggested for a blood test and now it shows 3.80 as againstthe maximum of 5.0. since there was no improvement i consulted a Homeo doctor who prescribed Berberis pentarkin tabs. which i used for about three to four days. I got first attack of uric acid in the year 2002 and after that it came yearly or bi-yearly. After 2006 it came back in the year 2009 and now in 2010 again it attacked on my left toe. My uric acid level is now 7.6 and the attack time is around March. I would like to mention here that I use to go on jogging daily for 4 km and do exercise and also practice yoga and pranayam since 2006. I also reduced my weight to 10 kg. But before one month it sudddenly rise to 230/130 mm of hg. Many blood test, urine test, abdomen ultrasound etc. i have undergone. My doctors found out too much of protine is going out in my urine that is arounf 1263 mg/24 hrs. And rbc is also present in my urine around 3-4/hpf. These are the abnormalities has been found out in the test. Whether due to this protineuria my blood pressure is raised. I am 45 years old and was first diaganosed for high uric acid 3 years back when I complained of mild pain in my fingers and toes.. Level at that time was 6.7. I was prescribed Zyloric 100 mg to start with and later 200 mg. My uric acid dropped to 5.6 and then 4.3. I was also having a GERD problem and taking Pentaprazole 20/40 mg for this. M age of 54+ and M suffering from uric acid since Oct’2006. Since then using zyloric on regular basis. The level is now at lower side but still having some pain on right thigh and also reast power for both the hand is reduced in comparision to earlier.

I have uric acid problems. I have got it checked though in reports it is less than 7.00 but I have pains in the joints its level is between 6.00 to 6.9. My husband has high uric acid and despite a complete change in diet due to high cholesterol the uric acid level in hus blood has inceased over the past year. He has been placed on medication as of yesterday. Allopurinol and Cestor.
He does not have severe pain in joints as gout sufferers just the y occasional aches here and there.
He is 51 years old, exercises regularly and eats a healthy low fat diet; fruit and oats every morning for breakfast, salads, greens and mostly grilled fish and chicken. He snacks on pineapple, water melon, apples, pears, whole grain crackers. We eat only whole wheat flour, pasta, skimmed, soy or almond milk. We use flax seed in oats and baking, even as an egg substitute. We do not eat shellfish, red meat or pork, neither alcohol. his only weakness, he likes fruit juices- has at least two glasses per day. 2- 3 cups of coffe sweetened with stevia.
He takes daily supplements form Nutrilite – doublex, omega 3, CoQ10 and 1000mg vitamin C

Last time before a year when i went for check up i found my uric acid level 8 and he suggested for LOGOUT SR 250 . I had it for 1 month and left it. Now i got high pain (now uric acid of 7.5)in my right foot toe joint and i have started logout again and i went to homeopathy doctor . I suffered from severe pain once in my knee in February. I got my blood tested and my Uric Acid was 7.1. I took homeopathic medicine to get relief from pain (my doc said the pain is not due to Uric Acid, so he gave medicine for pain only). I got relief, but I again suffered from pain after a month, but it went away as I started drinking a lot of water, which I read, helps in dissolving the UA crystalls from joints.
I have increased my water intake, and I have never suffered from much pain since March, but my Uric Acid level is not decreased.
It was 7.1 in February, 7.0 in April, and yesterday (July, 1st) it was 6.9
Please tell me sir, can I make it normal without any medicine? Or is it that I cant make it normal without a medicine?

I myself am an homeopath, but no longer in practice due to my life-circumstancesrequiring a lot oftravel. I shall appreciate any easy to follow homeopathis regime that would keep my gout (only newly discivered as possibly resultinjg from uric acid – even though I have it only 5 or less): one or two remedies and exact potencies (because of my travels, I can not carry too many remedies with me, nor visit homeopaths to regularly change remedies and potencies – many countries I go, they do not allow homeopathic remedies through the cusoms, and finding a local homeopath becomes impossible).
I have had joint pains over 12 years – usually in lower back, neck and right shoulder – never suspected gout.
Only recently – after I twisted my right ankle, swelling and terrible sharp pain and swelling occured, first on the ankle (inner-side), and spread to big toe join on right foot – inner side, then to joint between the two toes next to the big toe. Utric Urens, Arnica – did not much help (thogh might have been slowly reducing the pain and swelling, but I had to stop them as I moved on travels), and eventually I wasdiagnosed with High uric acid (5) as cause for it. Three voltarin injectionswithin a week/ 10 days , and No Uric 100 mg, first twice daily, nowthrice – seem to help, but pain is still there , and i m scared stiff to give it up. How long shall I take? I’drather not, if any homeopathic alternative to help both the acute and thechronic situation is remedied. I have been almost pure vegetarian for almost 10 years – now for last two weeks have given up virtually everything except wheat breadandwater, with occasional youghurt. I canot find much vegetarian food where I currently am.

I had a open heart surgery about 2 years back. I am perfectly ok now with morning walk & regular light exercises and proper control in food. But 4 months back I had severe pain with swealing in left leg foot. Dr advised me to check the Uric Acid and found the same as 7.6. After the medicine i became alright and again started the same problem and pain relived like last time after the medicine.
Please advise whether any permanent cure for this problem or it continues like this only.
