Homeopathy for sinusitis ,colds and cough

After the scorching spell of Indian summers, winter is a big respite for many; but for some individuals winter brings its own set of miseries too. Sensitivity to cold weather can really disturb ones life. Recurrent cough and cold are the main diseases that affect these individuals during this period. Recurrent cough and colds can lead to episodes of sinusitis and may even trigger attacks of asthma in some patients. It is not the winters that is the culprit but their body’s sensitivity to cold that makes them susceptible. Homeopathy can play a major role in treating these individuals. Homeopathy not only treats the cold cough and other symptoms that occur due to weather sensitivity but also cures ones sensitivity to this cold.

As the winters begin, for many individuals, cold and nasal congestion is the main problem. This (in my experience) somehow is also associated with the sensitivity of their head to cold. Even little exposure of chill to their head triggers an attack of cold, leading to nasal congestion and even sinusitis. Even a single exposure for such weather sensitive individuals can completely jeopardize their health for a couple of weeks or months. The symptoms that they develop are runny or stuffy nose, dripping of mucus in the throat from the back of the nose, throat pain, fever and at times discharge of thick yellowish-green or grayish mucus in large quantity. Sinusitis is a frequent complication for such individuals. Recurrent colds or prolonged cold attacks make them more susceptible for inflammation in the sinuses (sinusitis). The classical symptoms of acute sinusitis include heaviness and pain in the face over the area of the infected sinus, nasal congestion and discharge, postnasal drip, sore throat, headache, cough, fatigue and fever at times.

Recurrent cough attacks and even bronchitis is very common in those are sensitive to chill. Kids seem to be more affected by frequent attacks of cough and breathing problems. A slight exposure to cold can trigger a cough attack which if it becomes recurrent can lead to breathing difficulties or even asthma.

Homeopathy offers a very promising and an effective solution to this cold sensitivity problem. It can be used in three stages to combat this problem effectively and permanently. At the first stage, homeopathy should be used immediately after the exposure. As soon as the first symptoms appear, I would advise people (who are very sensitive to cold) to take a dose of homeopathic medicine Aconitum Napelus 30 c. This drug is also known by the name of Aconite has wonderful results in aborting attacks of cold if taken immediately when the symptoms start to appear. At the second stage (here you would require to consult your physician) when the symptoms have developed and the attack is in its full intensity, homeopathic treatment will depend upon the symptoms that are presented in the case. This type of symptomatic treatment with homeopathy is also very helpful in developing resistance against the diseases.

The third stage (which is the most important and can be handled only by a physician) is curing the body’s sensitivity to cold. This would require a detailed analysis of patient’s physical and mental constitution with an important consideration of their sensitivity to cold. Prescription based on this would eventually help the patient to get rid of this cold sensitivity problem. One should not expect miracles to happen within a week or so, as treating such kind of sensitivity will often take some time, like a season or two before one sees a major change.
