Drooping of the upper eyelids is known as ptosis. Ptosis is not a disease, but a symptom arising from various conditions. Ptosis can be one sided (unilateral) or affect both sides (bilateral). Ptosis can be congenital (one can be born with ptosis) or acquired (ptosis develops later in life). Homeopathic remedies for ptosis can bring improvement depending on factors like the duration of ptosis, the intensity of ptosis (mild, moderate or severe degree) and the body’s individual response. 
Ptosis arises mainly from one of the three reasons that include – a weakness of muscles involved in raising the eyelid, damage to the nerve that supplies eyelid muscles or swelling of the lid. Levator palpebrae superioris and superior tarsal are the two muscles weakness in which causes ptosis. Nerve damage affects the oculomotor nerve. If not treated well in time, ptosis may lead to amblyopia (lazy eye) or astigmatism.
Homeopathic Remedies for Ptosis
Ptosis can be treated wonderfully well with Homeopathy. However, the prescription varies. The ideal medicine is selected as per the individual symptom presentation. Homeopathy treats ptosis by strengthening the muscles of the eyelids. Some prominent medicines for ptosis include Alumina, Rhus Tox, Kali Phosphoricum, Plumbum Metallicum, Causticum, Gelsemium sempervirens, and Ledum Palustre.
Among these, Alumina and Rhus Tox are well indicated for right-sided ptosis. Kali Phosphoricum and Plumbum Metallicum are excellent for ptosis of left side. Causticum works well for ptosis arising on either side. Gelsemium Sempervirens is the ideal choice of medicine for ptosis from resulting from exhaustion. Last but not least, Ledum Palustre serves best in treating ptosis arising after injury.
Types of Ptosis
The major types of ptosis include – myogenic ptosis, neurogenic ptosis, aponeurotic ptosis, mechanical ptosis, traumatic ptosis and neurotoxic ptosis.
Myogenic ptosis arises from muscle weakness from a systemic disorder. The main causes of myogenic ptosis are myasthenia gravis, myotonic dystrophy, and oculopharyngeal muscular dystrophy.
Neurogenic ptosis arises from a problem in the nerve pathway controlling movement of the eyelid muscles. The major causes for neurogenic ptosis include oculomotor nerve palsy and Horner’s syndrome.
Aponeurotic ptosis, also known as senile ptosis, is majorly seen in elderly people from overstretching of eyelid muscle.
Mechanical ptosis arises from edema or tumor of the upper eyelid.
Traumatic ptosis arises from trauma to the eyelid.
Neurotoxic ptosis is mainly caused by snake bites including cobra, kraits and taipans. Neurotoxic ptosis is a medical emergency.

Hello. I am 18 yr old and have a drooping eyelid in the right eye. Also my eyebrow have got raised a little. Meaning to say my eyes are getting unsymmetrical. My wife Naina Malhotra age 68 years has started showing drooping of the right eyelid. This problem could have been there for the last few months but has become noticeable only lately. The eyelid drooping is less in the morning and after rest and more pronounced when she is outdoor in the sunlight.

My mother aged about 52 years of age suffered from paralysis of left side of face on 12th July 2016. Immedietly we consulted Homeopathic Doctor who prescribed Causticum30,200, Gelsmium 30,Kali phos6x, Raulvolia serpQ,passiflora IncarnataQ,Belladona 1m.
Now after 8 months of taking medicines it is partially cured. At first the left eye was remaining always open but now the eyes getting closed when eating or drinking water. She is feeling as if the eye is swollen and the eye is getting closed.

PTOSIS had initially occurred around 12 years before & subsided with Homeopathy medicine (name of medicine is not known & Doctor concerned is not in contact). Now it has relapsed again for last around three months.

My dog is a rescue dog now 2 years old. Came with diarhoea roundworm giardia parasite and campylobacter. Got those sorted and last xmas started loosing pigmentation on his nose. The vet was not concerned. In January my older dog was euthanased due to cancer in his shoulder and nothing could be done. I wondered if the young dog knew what was happening and grieving for his friend. In September the young dog had his testes removed and two dew claws, also the vet biopsied his nose as it was swollen. The result was a stapphyloccus infection, pyoderma consistent with discoid lupus. He had 3 weeks of antibiotics and she wants to use a steroid cream on his nose which will not sort the problem and I dont want him to have it. I have him on Stapphyloccus 200.
My 10yr old pony has been misdiagnosed since birth. Another rescue. The vets said it was sweet itch, but never responded to treatment. His coat is always thick and I clip him out. He started with crusty lumps along his mane and neck. Over the years they have come out in different parts of his body and ofcourse insects made a beeline for him. His liver enzymes have been raised. and over two summers his blood results were 300 for equine metabolic disease. He was put on metformin powder which in my opinion have done nothing for him. The crusty lumps, sores, infected covered the size of my hand at the top of his tail. Antibiotics were useless. A biopsy found a stapphyloccous bacteria resistant to 8-10 nantibiotics. He was put on antibiotics for weeks, his raw tail treated with sterile manuka honey, and I have used allicin gel from garlic, and iodine. I have taken him off the metformin once again. He was eating nettles and calendula flowers . I now pick a bucketful, make a tea and he also eats the cooked greens. I started doing this after he seemed to swell up around the abdomen and had difficulty passing water. I gave him Apis and The herbal tea. We have resolved that. My pony wanted Thuja, so he is on that and stapphyloccus 200 daily. If he doesnt get it for a few days the ears swell get hot and the crusty lumps appear. While away for 5 days I have come home to find the crust lumps in his ears, neck and a 1 1/2 ” swelling and 2 or 3 crusty tops on his under belly forward of his sheath. He has been rubbing to release the discomfort. His eyes become glassy. I have given him sulphur 30. I would be obliged if you could give me advice to clear these horrible conditions, my knowledge has come from reading books and such reports as yours. My animals do not respond much to allopathic medicne but willingly take natural herbs and homeopathy.
I also have my father with pemphygoid Bullous, but thats another story if you are interested.

I have ptosis due to a chromosomal disorder, which is diagnosed after a biopsy and examination of the cells by an electronic microscope.It is said to be a genetic disorder. The allopathic doctors have declared that there is no medicine for it and Ayurvedic treatment had no effect. I went to a homeopath, who has prescribed BTI (1-0-1) and FP6x(1/2-0-1/2, which I am taking for the last two weeks, and no improvement is seen. What do you advice?
