Attention Deficit Hyperactive disorder ADHD
It is estimated that about 3-5 percent of all kids, have this disorder. Also the most unfortunate thing is that in many cases this disorder goes totally undiagnosed .The child is often mistaken as hyper-energetic kid or as just being more playful, but the reality is that many such kids suffer from a medical disorder known as Attention Deficit Hyperactive Disorder or ADHD.
It is a common belief that only kids showing signs of physical hyperactivity have some problem related to this disorder. Well, this actually it is not the complete truth. Symptoms of consistent inattentiveness are also associated with this disorder. It is characterized by hyperactivity (physical), inattentiveness, and impulsivity

Kids having ADHD usually depict either of three patterns of behavior. Either they are more of the hyperactive type, which means that they are more physically hyperactive (constantly moving jumping running fidgeting squirming, having difficulty sitting in one place etc) or the ‘inattentive type’ (having difficulty in concentrating, easily distracted) or the ‘combined type’ (having symptoms of hyperactivity and inattention both).
Not all children who run and jump too much suffer from ADHD. It is very important to realize that for a child to be diagnosed with ADHD, certain criterion has to be met with also called as the DSM criteria, before a child can be said to be suffering from it.
Nobody exactly knows what causes ADHD. Recent researches point out the causes could be either neurobiological or genetical. Certain chemical levels in the brain have been found low (dopamine -a chemical that sends messages to the part of the brain involved in attention, movement and motivation). Increased levels of heavy metals (lead) in the body is also seen in some kids .The kind of parenting given to the child has no role in the causation of this disorder, although bad parenting can influence the severity of this disorder.
Implication of ADHD can have far reaching effects, with the schooling of the child taking the biggest hit. Poor performance in school due to ADHD can lead to a hampered self esteem in the child .ADHD can also lead to learning disabilities, defiant behavior ,conduct disorder(anti-social behaviour,stealing ,fighting), anxiety disorders and depression .
Severe forms of ADHD are difficult to differentiate from milder forms of autism, a careful approach is necessary in diagnosing and treating such forms. Such severe forms affect the child?s normal mental development .for example speech and cognitive skills can be markedly affected in such cases.

Not able to follow instructions and fails to follow school or home work.
My 17 yrs boy has all ADHD problems ie hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattentiveness. Dr sharma my son has taken your meficine but there is no change a bit.he is in 11th now and taken IB board but his teachers are fed up with him . He is getting zero marks in all subjects. And not following any rules. Getting complains from the schools . What should i do as i left 3 schools for his behaviour only. His academic is suffering a lot. He is very distracted and talking senseless. Plz help

My daughter of 6.years has reduced her interest and concentration from past a month+ in her studies. She was very good in her studies and was able to grasp very fast but now I don’t understand what’s wrong even after teaching for couple of times say more than 20times she is unable to grasp easily.
Please help me how to get back her concentration and grasping power. And she is hyper active as usual.

I read your article,but I am not sure if my sister is going through AdHD or not. she is 31 years,married and have a child too. But her behaviour is just like a child of 10-11 years old. Sometimes she becomes too aggressive too handle while at times she is normal. She don’t likes to seek attention either.We do not know how to deal with it. Kindly suggest

My daughter is 7 years old , she is second stand, she is not able to write properly but orally reading she does well, in her class exams she says she forget everthing and had returned the blank papers back, but after coming from school same questions she answered correctly, her class teacher has said to repeat the same class next year, but to my opinion that won’t help much, I even ask my daughter if she is not able to cope up may be we shall put her in some other School may be state syllabus, but she wants to study in the same school, we do not what to do , kindly suggest us.

Hello Doctor. My daughter she is 5 years old. We had problems with her that. She is not listening to us, she want something she keep repeatedly. We explain to her but her brain seem function slow she don’t understand or she just want act like that. She very smart but she also very hyper plus arrogant. We watching other kids. Sir, I am a father of girl child age 3.5 years. She had been declared non-autistic with SCD (social and communication disorder) by the doctors. As advised by them, I have started OT and the results are very good. The OT has said that she had ADHD and that after improvement she can be categorized as ADD only. Three major problems that we face are as under:
1. She doesn’t get along with children of her age
2. Though she remembers rhymes, alphabets., not. But when it comes to writing she is not interested at all.
3. Attention deficit
