PCOS i.e. Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome is a common hormonal syndrome that affects women in the reproductive age group. Prolonged menses, no menses for many months, delayed or irregular menses are the common symptoms which could point towards this endocrine disorder. It is also one of the main causes of female infertility.
Managing PCOS Naturally with Homoeopathy
Homeopathy can treat PCOS naturally, along with lifestyle changes that are introduced like managing weight and diet. PCOS is a result of an imbalance of hormones like LH (Luteinizing hormone) and FSH (Follicle stimulating hormone) which leads to excessive androgen (male sex hormone) production. It manifests in the form of symptoms like irregular periods, weight gain, acne, hair fall and hirsutism. Homoeopathic medicines help in PCOS by restoring the hormonal balance, regulating menstrual cycle, improving metabolism and managing the associated symptoms. Homeopathic remedies can also help in cases of infertility that are linked to PCOS.

This may lead to dependency and also have harmful side effects, creating more complications. On the other hand, homeopathy is a great alternative for treating PCOS in a safe and gentle manner without causing any side effects.
Constitutional treatment
— Homeopathy follows a path of constitutional treatment to treat a patient. Such treatment focuses on correcting the underlying conditions in the body causing the disease, not merely its signs and symptoms. In this way, it leads to a permanent cure rather than temporary symptom management.
— What does constitutional treatment mean? It refers to treatment based on evaluating, summing and addressing the physical, emotional and mental makeup of the patient. Constitutional treatment works as a stimulus for the person’s innate healing potential to self-heal. There are many medicines in homeopathy to treat PCOS, but medicines selected as per the patient’s constitution is what will helps cure PCOS.

Causes Behind PCOS
The exact cause of PCOS is still not clear. There are a few factors, however, that are believed to lead to PCOS.
1. The main factor is the excessive production of the male hormone androgen by the
2. It is considered a disease of genetic A woman with a family history of PCOS is at a higher risk of developing it.
3. Insulin resistance and excess of insulin (a hormone produced by pancreas that helps body cells to use sugar for energy) can be one of the reasons. In case cells become resistant to insulin, there is an increase in blood sugar levels which makes the pancreas produce more insulin. The excessive insulin in turn triggers ovaries to produce more androgen.
4. Another factor is low-grade inflammation due to high androgen
5. Weight gain, obesity and an inactive lifestyle are other contributory factors.
Pathophysiology Of PCOS
In PCOS, the ovaries of a woman and ovulation are affected. The ovaries are a pair of reproductive organs in women that produce eggs (ovum). The ovaries produce hormones oestrogen, progesterone, and a small amount of male hormones known as androgens. The ovaries release an egg every month. The process of releasing an egg from the ovary is known as ovulation. Ovulation occurs around the 14th day of a 28-day menstrual cycle.
— Ovulation is controlled by the FSH – Follicle stimulating hormone and LH – luteinizing hormone.
— FSH controls follicle (sac-containing egg) production by the ovary and maturation of the egg, while LH triggers the release of a mature egg from the ovary.
— In the case of PCOS, there is an increase in androgen (male hormone) level. This inhibits the production of hormones by ovaries and the normal development of an egg.
— In PCOS, fluid-filled sacs/ immature follicles in ovaries that contain an immature egg develop but there is no ovulation. The absence of ovulation results in altered levels of oestrogen, progesterone, FSH and LH. Also, progesterone levels are low in cases of PCOS.
Signs And Symptoms Of PCOS
1.Menstrual problems:
a) Irregular periods due to absence of ovulation, as a result of which the lining of the uterus is not shed every month.
b) Delayed periods or amenorrhea (absence of menses for three or more consecutive months) which amounts to less than eight periods in a year.
c) As the periods do not occur regularly, it results in the building up of uterine lining for long. When the periods occur, they can be heavier than normal.
d) Scanty menses
2. Acne/pimples may occur due to release of more male hormones that causes skin to become oily. Acne may occur on the face, chest, and back.
3. Hirsutism: There is excess hair growth on the face or other unusual parts of the body, like belly, chest, and back. This is due to release of raised male hormone levels in a female’s body.
4. Skin darkening may appear especially in body folds like armpits, groin, under the breast, and neck. Acanthos Nigricans ( is a skin condition characterized by dark, thick, velvety patches, usually on the underarms, armpits and neck)
5. Hairfall, and hair thinning
6. It is noted that in around 80% of PCOS cases, there is weight gain and obesity
7. There is headache, mood swings and irritability due to hormonal
How to diagnose PCOS?
In cases where signs and symptoms point towards PCOS, the main first test advised is an ultrasound of the pelvis. In PCOS cases, ultrasound will show the presence of cysts (fluid-filled sacs) and enlargement of the ovaries. Hormone tests will have to be conducted to check the degree of hormonal imbalance. These tests are blood tests including FSH (Follicle stimulating hormone), LH (luteinizing hormone), androgens, prolactin and progesterone.
What are the complications of PCOS?
— The most common complication is infertility (this is because women with PCOS do not have ovulation regularly because of which eggs are not released and not fertilized).
— The second complication that can occur is Type 2 diabetes.
— The third complication is metabolic syndrome (a combination of conditions that includes high blood sugar, high blood pressure, high LDL and low HDL).
— Other complications are miscarriage and premature birth of babies, eating disorders, depression and anxiety.
Management of PCOS
Effective management of PCOS requires a holistic approach combining lifestyle, diet, exercise, and stress control.
Regular physical activity like brisk walking, yoga or strength training helps improve insulin sensitivity, maintain healthy weight, and regulate hormone levels.
A balanced diet rich in whole grains, vegetables, lean proteins, fruits but low in refined sugar and processed foods helps in easy metabolism and reduces hormonal imbalance.
Stress management through meditation, deep breathing, or mindfulness techniques keeps hormonal levels under check and improves mental well-being.
Adequate sleep and hydration are essential. Smoking and excessive alcohol and caffeine need to be avoided.
Consistent implementation of these measures promotes long-term symptom control, reduces recurrence and improves fertility and quality of life.

Dear Sagandeep, I am not a doctor, but fellow woman with PCOS and just by judging on how no comments are answered , but knowing what you are describing – I have decided to reply myself and share at least what I know.
I can write a really really long novel on all information I have found on PCOS, but I will try summarize it: Nobody knows why exactly PCOS is triggered or why it is affecting some females and not the others, but everybody can agree on the crystal clear fact -> PCOS women have their hormones out of balance.
Reasons for that can be and usually are complex: lifestyle, genetics, stress, physiological factors, injuries, etc. You need to do a little bit of self analysis to find out what could be your underlying reason(s) and address that at the root cause. Every case is individual. But the general the idea is: something you do in YOUR life or to YOUR body – is affecting your body system that is responsible for hormone function.
From my research, here are the biggest ‘influence’ factors:
1. EXERCISE. PCOS is creating a constant inflammation in our bodies. We need to move to help our body to heal and combat that. I put exercise on No.1, because even with right diet – if u don’t exercise with PCOS, if we don’t move, everything will get even worse. Walking every day is a must. Resistance training. Slow, fluid and strength training exercises are good. Be kind to your body, no need to hit the gym like a maniac or do HITT workouts – but just try to have an exercise routine every single day. Be it 15-30 minutes, but the key is: consistency, elevated heart pulse and kind push for body to do better. I say kind several times, because if you are too hard on fitness – you might do more damage than good. I tried many apps and exercises and mostly I love doing P.Volve and/or some Yoga.
2. NUTRITION.
Maybe you have very active physical life, but you have poor diet (e.g. too many carbs or fats and not enough protein, or not balanced meals). I have read many many articles and science papers on nutrition for PCOS, there are many false claims and bad advices. From scientific facts, there are two PROVEN suggestions that I can share: keep a balanced diet and pay extra attention to Proteins. In your daily food consumption -> you should have 30-35% of your calories coming from FAT, less than 30-40% from complex carbs, and 30-40% from PROTEIN. Protein should never be less than 30% of your daily calorie intake. Fat should never exceed 35%, be very diligent about that. Moreover, pay attention that your EVERY meal should have ideally some good fat, carb and protein. Also pay attention that these % are given for ENERGY from FAT/CARB/PROTEIN, not weight of FAT/CARB/PROTEIN in your food. Reason: 1 gram of fat creates 4 times energy than 1 gram of protein and 2 times than 1 gram of carb.
Second, you might consider intermittent fasting (16-8) on top of correct nutrition macros. It wasn’t working for me (I felt like I was too hungry and needed some snacks here and there), but if it is something comfortable and easy for you – it has very good effect on PCOS and hormonal balance, worth trying.
3. MENTAL. Deep psychological underlying reasons – some experts suggest that PCOS is a sign of woman somehow not allowing herself to be The Woman in her life. If you think of that on hormonal level – PCOS women do have more male hormones. If you look at the spiritual side of this situation, you can interpret it as: woman is trying to take more of male attributes in her life. Examples could be: trying to build and focus aggressively in your career, not giving yourself love and attention, not being flexible, kind and fluid – having strong opinions and hard discipline, or for example always caring about your family or children/husband/parents, but not paying attention to YOUR needs as a Woman, Your desires, nurturing Your dreams – putting yourself always on 2nd place or last, not giving yourself Your time, or being too critical of your mistakes/faults/misfortunes. It is a very good idea – to do a bit of self-exploration and heal yourself not only from outside, but from inside too.
4. SLEEP. No good sleep and rest – no good hormones. Sleep is a holy time for our body to recharge and heal, so pay attention to quality of your sleep. Is your mattress comfortable, is your pillow making you happy, do you get enough hours of sleep, do you have atmosphere that makes you happy to wake up. How do you feel when u wake up?
Now when it comes to fixing the problems, western medicine is focusing on addressing the hormonal balance – by prescribing hormonal therapy plus metformin for insulin resistance and weight gain. In other words situation is the following: your body is weak and needs help to produce hormones. You can either:
a. try to make your body stronger (which takes time, effort and consistency) -> and maybe, slowly it will regain the function of properly producing the right levels of hormones.
b. take hormonal pills -> which will bring missing levels hormones to your body.
The end result is pretty much similar, but in option a. you are healing the underlying reasons and fixing your ‘malfunctioning ship’, in option b your are just applying a ‘quick fix’ that will work only as long as you keep taking pills and when you remove the ‘quick fix’ – your ship might be even in worse state than before you made a quick fix. Another way to think about it is: your body already cannot make enough progesterone for some reason, but after you bombard it with hormonal therapy -> your weak body function becomes not needed and it just leads to atrophy of that function. And for some women, this is a right choice, for some it is not -> ultimately it is your body and You decide what is right for you.
From my research -> those 4 points above are biggest contributors, and then supplements (like inositol, vitamin D, etc.), homeopathy and acupuncture can further stimulate healing in right direction and help to recover the functions that your body somehow struggles with. I came to read this article as I started researching what homeopathic options there are, but I believe a doctor should see your INDIVIDUAL symptoms to make a right suggestion.
Hi Maria,
That is kind of you to reply to Sagandeep. However, consider this: Why do people ask for advice when the answer is on the page in front of them? Why should Dr. Sharma give consultations for free? I too am a Homeopath and a doctor of many other things, and need to eat and pay bills to keep a roof over my head. Should I work for free, and ask for charity to keep me and my family alive? Exchange is a natural law that keeps the world moving forward. When you deny exchange you create criminals. Ask Sagandeep what she would be willing to exchange for the benefit of getting well. Sickness is not just a material problem, it is a spiritual problem too. Have a great day! Ginger.
Write to Dr. Sharma and get a reply on how homeopathy can help you in treating your disease condition .
Hi! Ginger, I posted the written instructions for the part of this ? & A section we are posting in, in the event you missed reading it. Perhaps before you politely rebuff someone (Maria) for just sharing their story and fixes you should understand the part “and get a reply” works. True she isn’t doctor Sharma but Maria didn’t suggest any medications/medical txs just good common sense advice that has worked for her. No harm! No foul!
Dr. Sharma:
I am post menopausal, can I still take the above meds. I have been dx’d with PCOS, hyperandrogemia, Hashimotos thyroiditis, Uterine Fibroids (10cms with some pain at times) and hirsutism with more hair on left side of face than the right; testosterone levels are 206ng/dL. Can you recommend what I should take before I decide to self-medicate and screw up my hormones even more so. My endocrinologist suggests I go to a GyngOncologist and have a TAH and BSO which I am refusing to do. My bx for the fibroids are benign. I believe that Homeopathy can help me. I am hoping that you will reply to my post.
Thank you

Hello Dr. Sharma,
Thank you for all of this wonderful information. I am hopeful that there is a homeopathic solution to my problem.
I was diagnosed with lean pscos several weeks ago. My only symptom is irregular, long cycles. I menstruate every 70-75 days. I eat a very healthy vegan diet, rich in fats and protein, low in carbs; gluten free, sugar free, no refined oils or processed foods, no starchy grains. I take vitamins D, B12, & Calcium daily and just started a pre/pro biotic. I also use CBD regularly. I workout rigorously 5-6 days per week and am of a healthy weight and build.
My doctor suggested an oral contraceptive which I would like to avoid. She also said my case is not dangerous and because I am not planning on getting pregnant, not urgent. I would love some advice as to what I can do to treat this pscos homeopathically. Thank you for your time and guidance.
