Mucus is normally produced by mucus membranes of the nose and paranasal sinuses (air-filled cavities in the bones of skull) daily without our being aware of it. This mucus is required in the body as it functions to trap germs, infectious particles, pollutants, and dust particles that enter from the nose to prevent their entry into the lungs. Mucus production tends to increase under certain health conditions and in some cases, the mucus is thick and sticky in nature. The first reason behind this is common cold.
