Head Injury :its Homeopathic treatment

imageIn a recently completed study, Dr Edward Chapman of Boston?s Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital demonstrated that homeopathy significantly lessens the symptoms and improves the functioning of individuals with mild chronic head injury.

For what is now backed up by research are what homeopathy, for the last two centuries, have been trying to advocate ? that neurological problems arising out of injuries, either recent or remote, can be effectively treated with homeopathy. Not only does homeopathy help in treating the long-term effects of injury, but also it can help in stopping internal hemorrhage (bleeding) if the injury is fresh. It can also reduce swelling in the brain.

Assault on the head

Traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a term used to describe a sudden physical assault on the head that causes damage to the brain. It occurs in two types: closed and penetrating. A closed head injury occurs when the head suddenly and violently hits an object, but the object does not break through the skull (e.g. head hitting the dashboard in a car accident). A penetrating type is like a gun shot wound.

An injury can also occur in response to the shaking of the brain within the confines of the skull, an injury called “countercoup”. Shaken baby syndrome is a kind of a countercoup injury that is caused when the baby is violently shaken and the brain sustains injury due to the sudden violent shaking.

What kind of damage occurs?

As brain controls the whole body functions, the possibility of the damage that it can cause engulfs a wide spectrum of disabilities. Loss of consciousness, loss of motor power and/or sensation, loss or decrease in one?s cognitive abilities (the process of knowing in the broadest sense, including perception, memory and judgment) and loss or decrease in one?s speech, swallowing, etc, are usually the most common ones.

The impact of the injury causes the brain to move back and forth against the inside of the bony skull. The frontal (front) and temporal (side) lobes of the brain, the major speech and language areas often receive the most damage in this way because they sit in pockets of the skull that allow more room for the brain to shift and sustain injury. Because these major speech and language areas often receive damage, communication difficulties frequently occur following closed head injuries.

It is often very difficult to predict the damage or the nature of the damage in the first week, as the freshly injured brain undergoes swelling and bruising, and it is only after the swelling has subsided that the real residual abnormalities are detected.

The wonder of arnica lies in treating brain injuries, recent or remote, in the most natural and effective way. It is more of a head injury panacea. It helps in first controlling the bleeding in the brain and also in reducing the swelling in the brain. It has been found useful when years after the brain injury, symptoms related to it start appearing.

Neurological effects of injuries

The degree to which a homeopath can help is governed by two factors: by the extent of the damage , and the function of the brain that has been compromised.

Although quite a few of the effects can be handled by Arnica alone, the residual abnormalities do have a wide range. Homoeopathy has in its repository other effective medicines that are specific to certain conditions that arise from brain injuries. For example, there are separate groups of medicines for epilepsy, paralysis, memory and speech loss, etc, occurring after brain injury.

    Dear Dr Sharma,

My wife( 34 yrs) survived a hypoxic stroke back in September 2015, since then she showed good improvement and is able to walk and understand everything happening around her. She is undergoing speech therapy since last three months and is able to speak short sentences but keeps on repeating unintentionally(as she was on ventilator for 25 days she had a breathing difficulty). I also noticed that her motor movements are very slow. I am counting on her so she can take care of herself and will be able to live a normal life like before stroke.

Any help on her will be greatly appreciated.

With lots of hope and regards.

  11. Laverne Terrillion says:

My husband fell off a ladder onto concrete 2 yrs ago. He sustained a TBI. The worse injury was to his left frontal lobe. He has had several seizures & continues to be on seizure medication. Has had speech thwrap over the past 2 yrs. He continues to be very confused & very little short term memory. Dr. put him on zoloft, Olazspine along with the seizure medication. I am looking for some homopathic medications. He is 70 yrs. Old.

  12. Dear Sir,

cCn you tell me whether any homeopathic treatment or remedies can help my elderly parent (84 years) who is showing signs of ‘dementia with lewy bodies’ and who’s ophthalmologist tests suggest some injury/irregularity – the Dr. used the word “possible infarction” in the occipital lobe ?? Reading, writing and also recognition of places is becoming harder (cataracts in both eyes confirmed), having some visual distortions (seeing what is not there/ conversing with photographs/sometimes not recognizing familiar family members with ease)…Her short-term memory and space disorientation have also deteriorated, and while she still talks sense, she repeats herself more. However her long-term memory is fairly okay, is able to converse sensibly, conduct herself appropriately with decorum publically, wash, groom, dress and feed herself and in other respects remains quite perceptive and very analytical. But I Do observe differences – some of which appear to respond to diet and supplements. For instance I see improvements in clarity with Vit,B.complex, Vit C., Omega 3 and 6 and especially responds to Phospytadyl-serine (PS) supplements – along with a diet of home-cooked food – increased greens, eggs, fish/sardines/ beans etc , extra virgin coconut oil, more water ingested. I notice some backsliding when there is a disturbance in the eating & supplements regime, and more takeaways are consumed. Long distance travel seems to ‘throw’ her more, requiring more time to settle down after trips, as well – but even this is not too bad, as long as I am with her.

Question: Is there ANYTHING ELSE along Homeopathic lines that I could do to improve her Mental Strength and Clarity, and her Memory ? WHAT REMEDIES CAN HELP TO HEAL OCCIPITAL INJURY – WHATEVER THE CAUSE?? (she recalls falling frequently/she had a car accident about 15 years ago in which she broke an ankle but never complained of any pain in the head then/ she recalls bumping into a wooden cabinet at night/ hurting her head in bed as she tried to pull the covers in the last 2 years/ there were some falls and dizziness…but I have often wondered about whether she has had ‘undetected strokes’ which have been incrementally causing occipital damage…. We are yet to do the brain scan, so No formal diagnosis as yet). WHAT can I Do to promote brain health and healing – or prevent Rapid brain deterioration, even at her age and even with her current symptoms ?? I really would like her to ENJOY her last years as much as possible. She is still able to take walks, wash her own clothes, attend church and other community events if not too tired. Although the ‘deterioration’ is there, she is far from ‘washed-up’ ?? I welcome whatever advice you might have.

My wife aged about 50 had gone foe a walk in the morning about 8-8.30 on 25.4.2016. She fell down on the road either by herself or by a hit from behind by some small vehicle. She managed to come back on her own but soon she had a seizure like attack. We immediated rushed her to a nearby hospital wher she was admitted to ICU after a short treatment in the emergency. ECG and CT Scan was normal but MRI shows basuc frontal haemorrage. Dr. says no urgical intervention is required it will gradully heal by medication. After keeping her for two days in the ICU she has been shifted a private ward. In a day or two she will be discharged. The patient is in senses but time to time she complains of heavines and pain in the head.
I am suggested by an homepath to give Arnica 30 and Hypericum 30 thrice a day. Kindly suggest.
