What are Moles?
Moles are a common type of skin growth which develops from the pigment producing cells called melanocytes. Moles are clusters of melanocytes that appear as brown or black spots on the skin. They may even be flesh colored, reddish or bluish in appearance. They may be flat or raised, oval or round. They can appear in any part of the body and are medically known as melanocytic nevus. I am a 55 yr old Brazilian lady. I have different kinds of moles all over my back and abdomen that have appeared or worsened for the last 15 years. It’s something common in my family. Some of them are dark brown, rough, round, and have been growing in size over the years. One of them at the back of my neck is softer to the touch, but also has been growing over the course of the years, though I have it since I was a child. My 39-year-old son has had a great many brown and dark brown moles on his back FOR AS LONG AS I CAN REMEMBER. I do not, however, remember his being born with them. I noticed when massaging his back recently that he has acquired a couple or more new ones on this area. They cover a diffuse area.
