What is plantar fasciitis?
Plantar fascia is a thick band of connective tissue in sole of the foot running from heel to the base. Inflammation of this thick fascia is referred to as plantar fasciitis. The main symptom of plantar fasciitis is pain in the heel. Plantar fasciitis is one of the most common causes of heel pain.
Why does plantar fasciitis arise?
The exact cause of plantar fasciitis is not clearly understood. Any factor that puts excessive stress, strain on the plantar fascia makes a person prone to plantar fasciitis. Hello Doctor, i had plantar fascia in left leg earlier but now its grown up so much that its also taken up my right leg too. I have been getting plantar fascitis pain for a couple of months. I am a 56year old male, with current weight 86 kg – 3 kgs increased due to inactivity caused by the pain. My height is 5ft 10 inches.
The pain worsens if I keep standing for more than 5-10 minutes. I look for a place to sit. Lying down feels good. I had suspected calcaneal spur but on check up, a doctor friend diagnosed the pain as plantar fascitis.
I had seen a homeopath doctor who gave me Rhus tox 1m – 2 doses in sugar of milk and repeat after 10 days. In the intervening period Calc.Fl 6x and Calc.ph 6x thrice daily. Did this for 1 month with marginal benefit.
I saw an alopath doctor friend who gave me a dissolving pain killer for 1 week and medicine to reduce uric acid – I am at the threshold value. He asked me to apply hot compress twice daily. I have followed his advice and the pain has subsided quite a bit. However it returns on standing for long or walking, especially on uneven surface.
Can you suggest medication for cure and long term benefit.
I am addicted to jogging 3-4 times a week -3 km at a time and some free hand exercise after that. All this has stopped leading to continuous weight gain.
