My 88 year old mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimers and Dementia. Her husband of 65 years died in May last year and she is increasingly sad and lonely. She does not know why she is in a care home and thinks her mother (with whom she had a bad relationship) has ‘dumped her there’ and does not want her. She thinks her father has just died with whom she was very close (although she points to a photograph of my father when talking of her own). Her higher faculties are still really good – she is articulate and able to read the newspaper and converse. However, she goes on and on about being ‘abandoned’ and just wants to go home. She has lost a lot of weight and is now only just over 37 kilos. She is also involuntarily scratching her face day and night although whilst we were with her she did not. I was a practising homeopath for many years and have tried her on Phos-ac. She responded well to this – became more social, ate well and took an interest in her clothes and surroundings. It did however not hold for more than a few days. Any help you can give me would be gratefully received – as her daughter I feel too emotionally close to necessarily see the picture sufficiently clearly. I was wondering if you could give me some direction please. My 90 year old dad has vascular dementia. He stopped talking about 4 years ago. He is not on any meds as he would get all the side effects. About 4 1/2 years ago he got dehydrated and entered the hospital. The 3 days he was there they did not get him out of the bed and therefore he could no longer stand let alone walk. He walked 2 miles everyday. He went to rehab and they did not help him walk or stand. In 3 weeks his legs became contorted. He stands on his toes. I had a standing box made and we stand him 4-5 x a week for 30 minutes. He is very alert and understands commands to open mouth,etc. I need help with him getting stronger so he can stand.
