The sciatic nerve happens to be the largest nerve in our body. It starts from the lower part of the spinal cord and runs down through the hips and the back of the thigh into the lower leg and foot. The word ‘Sciatica ‘describes a condition of pain and sometimes numbness in the area through which the sciatic nerve passes. Sciatica or the pain in the course of the sciatic nerve occurs when there is a compression or irritation of the sciatic nerve by a problem in the lower back or in the course of sciatic nerve. It is when these discs get pushed (due to aging and wear -tear and arthritis), that the nerve roots of sciatic nerve get compressed or irritated. This leads to an inflammation on the nerve roots causing pain in the course of sciatic nerve.
Sciatica pain usually radiates from the lower part of the back through the buttocks and into the back of the leg and calf muscle. Sciatica pain can range from a very mild ache or spasm in the back of the leg to a very severe incapacitating pain. It can at times be felt like sudden electric shocks or jolts. Usually, only one leg is affected by sciatica. Sciatica pain may also be accompanied by feeling of numbness and weakness in the leg and foot. Patients suffering from sciatica may also complain of tingling or pins and needle sensation in toes and foot. In an advanced case of disc bulge and nerve compression patients may lose their control over bladder and bowel movement. This is a rare but a serious condition and requires an immediate emergency care.

Dear Dr., please advise the remedy for mild diffuse disc bulge at l4-l5 level with narrowing of bilateral neural foramina and lateral recesses leading to mild indentation on bilateral exiting and traversing nerve roots.

I am Just 27 years old and facing an issue in Lumber Spine . There is an evidence of annular tear at L4/L5 leading to left paracentral focal disc protrusion coparrsing the left sided nerve root .
There is a pain a bit but i can not walk,, sit and laying properly i can feal the pain while doing these thing .
I have to walk very slowely like a growing child and all I can not pull anything .

Hi,I’m a fulltime endurance runner.my last race was on the 7th November2013,after that things went downhill.Where I use to run 2x aday,I couldn’t because of pain in my leg.3months without running races and training is torturing to me,which make me depress,because its my bread and butter.3rd of December I went for a MRI scan which showed L5-L4 disc extrusion,compressing a nerve,causing pain in foot,and little numbness with sharp burn shoots.I went for chiro,strong meds,up till now nothing help,I’m more frustrated then ever,financialy its draining me.I’m desperate to get back on the road,as I don’t know yet if I can.PlEASE HELP

I am 55years old. my MRI report says Diffuse Disc Bulge at L5/S1Level indenting the thecal SAC and compressing bilateral descending S1 nerves ( grade III). Bilateral facet joint Hypertrophy is seen. my symptoms are pain on right hip and if i sit for long on chair then my right leg gets numb. i am doing exercises taught by physio therapist and my flexibility is very good in doing them. is there a cure for this problem by medication or i have to only find relief by strengthening my back muscles.

My name is lingesh and I am working as a Mechanical technician in abroad. I do have back pain and consult a doctor, he advised me to take a MRI Scan and I do it. The result says that my lumber joint near my buttock has been moved 25% and it can be rectified by doing a surgery by fixing a screw from the lumber joint to my spine? There is no problem in my Disc. And he advised me to put a Belt around the hip and I don’t feel any improvement by doing so.
I am working in abroad and if I go through a medical test they can see my screw in the spine and it will be medically unfit which I don’t want. So I kindly request you to help me in this matter and please reply me lingesh.r@hotmail.com

Dear sir,I am having a pain in my lower back going towards right hip & leg.My back and both legs
