6 Natural Homeopathic Medicines for Insect Bite

Insect bites are puncture wounds caused by insects. Insects tend to bite either to defend themselves when they are agitated or when they are seeking to feed. Homeopathic medicines for insect bite can help in managing the insect bites where mild to moderate signs and symptoms are present, and are localised to the skin.

Homeopathic Medicines for Insect Bite
The most common insects that tend to bite or sting include bees, mosquitoes, wasps, flies, fleas, ants and bedbugs. Most of the insect bites are mild and only lead to slight discomfort in the majority of the cases.
When an insect bites or stings it injects a venom in the body. This results in a response from the body’s immune system. Usually immediately there occurs redness and swelling at the skin site being stung or bitten. This can be followed by soreness and itching. In a person having sensitivity to insect venom a life threatening reaction known as anaphylaxis may occur that needs immediate medical help from conventional mode of treatment.
Anaphylaxis refers to a severe allergic reaction that arises from  release of certain chemicals by the body’s immune system which can prove fatal if not treated promptly.
Some of the signs and symptoms that indicates severe allergic reaction are hives, flushed or pale skin attended with swelling of the throat and the tongue,  trouble in breathing,  sudden drop in the blood pressure, nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea (loose stool), lightheadedness, dizziness, a rapid pulse and loss of consciousness. In these cases urgent help from conventional mode of treatment is needed as  it can be life threatening if not treated immediately.
There are high chances of severe reaction usually in the elderly people and the children.

Symptoms

The insect bite leads to redness, swelling, inflammation, pain, stinging sensation at the site being bitten or stung. Next blisters (fluid filled eruptions) may develop on the affected skin site. Itching, and irritation on skin can be felt. The site of bite or sting may be hot to touch and may also have numbness and a tingling sensation. These signs and symptoms are not serious and tend to resolve within a few days normally. But in some cases from an allergic reaction urticaria develops on the skin. Urticaria is also known as hives which refers to raised, pale red itchy wheals / bumps on the skin surface that results from an allergic skin reaction. The wheals can be attended with burning and stinging pains.  In rare cases a severe allergic reaction (anaphylaxis) to the insect venom may occur. The reaction that will occur varies upon which insect has bitten / stung a person and the sensitivity of a person individually towards it. Sometimes infection occurs in the insect bite cases. In this case there occur pus formation in or around the area of bite, an unwell feeling, fever, flu like symptoms and swelling of the glands.

Some of the common insects and their signs and symptoms are as follows:

Mosquito

In case of mosquito bite a small, round bump occurs after bite on the skin being bitten. After that it tends to get hard and red. It also gets swollen along with itching. They may also transmit diseases like dengue fever, malaria, Zika, yellow fever if they are carriers of its infectious agent.

Bedbug

In case of bedbug bite a person gets a rash attended with itching from an allergic reaction. The rash is small red swollen with a dark red center. These appear in the uncovered body parts and occur in a line or in cluster form. Itchy blisters (fluid – filled bumps) or urticaria may occur at the site of being bitten.

Fire ants

Its bite causes red swollen spots on the skin with a blister on  the top. It is attended with itching pain, stinging and burning sensation. In some of its cases intense allergic reactions can arise which is very dangerous. Its signs are generalised itching, swelling over the body and trouble breathing.

Fly bites

It leads to skin rash at the bitten area. It is itchy and painful. Sometimes they can cause severe allergic reactions. They can also cause spread of insect – borne diseases.

Flea bites

In case of flea bites usually wheals appear initially that become hard papules within 12 – 24 hours. These are located in clusters on the lower legs and feet. Fleas can also cause transmission of certain disease like typhus

Tick

In tick bites pain and swelling occurs at the bitten area. The tick usually remains attached to skin for a long time. The ticks may cause skin rash, blisters, burning and problem breathing. Ticks may also lead to Lyme disease (it spreads from tick bite infected by the bacterium of the type borrelia known as Borrelia burgdorferi).

Lice

The preferred body parts for the lice are the scalp and pubic area and they feed on the blood. They cause red welts at the site of  the bite and this site is intensely itchy.

Horse flies

When they bite immediately a sharp burning sensation is felt on the skin affected. The site of the bite is red, swollen and itchy. Bruising may also occur at this site. In some cases hives, weakness, dizziness, wheezing, itching of the eyes and lips with redness and swelling can occur.

Chiggers

Its bites cause painful, itchy rash, next it may lead to wheals, pimples, blisters with itching. These may appear in clusters in folds of  the skin.

Bees

These cause redness, pain, swelling, itching occurs at the site of the sting. In some cases there may occur a severe allergic reaction (called anaphylaxis) from a bee sting.

Wasps

Wasps cans sting multiple times and tend to cause pain along with burning, itching, redness, swelling at the sting site. Around the sting site a raised welt appears.

Yellow jacket

Yellow jacket sting causes swelling, redness, itching and tenderness at the area being stung.

Homeopathic Remedies for Insect Bite

Homeopathic medicines effectively reduce the sharp pain stinging, pricking pain at the skin site that has been bitten. These also help to soothe the  itching or burning sensation . They also reduce the redness and swelling at the site of bite and sting. These are helpful for managing the hives / urticaria without any other symptom linked with anaphylaxis. It is to be noted that in severe cases where  symptoms indicate severe allergic reaction/anaphylaxis it is strictly advised to take immediate help from conventional mode of treatment as it is a medical emergency and homeopathy has limitations to help these cases.

10 Effective Homeopathic Medicines For Blurred Vision

Blurred vision is a very common eyesight problem which means lack of sharp vision that causes difficulty to see clearly. It may occur in one or both the eyes. It may arise slowly gradually or all of sudden. Not all the cases are a reason for concern while others may need medical treatment sometimes urgent depending upon the cause behind it. Homeopathic medicines for blurred vision help in improving the vision as well as managing its attending symptoms like eye pain.

CausesHomeopathic Medicines For Blurred Vision

Firstly, it can arise from eye strain. The straining of eyes can result from using electronic devices (like mobile phone, computers) constantly for an extended period. Next it can arise from reading in dim light and driving for long hours without taking a break.

It can also appear in case of nearsightedness (myopia – in which a person can see close objects clearly but the far away objects appear blurred to them), farsightedness (hyperopia – in this the sufferer can see distant objects clearly but the near objects are blurry to them), astigmatism (a vision problem arising from a defect in the shape of the cornea) and presbyopia (loss of your eyes ability to focus on close objects).

Its third reason is conjunctivitis (inflamed membrane covering the white of the eye) that can occur from viral or a bacterial infection.

The fourth reason is keratitis (inflammation of the cornea). It can arise from an infection like from herpes virus or other infection. The risk of infection is raised from using contact lenses for a long time or using them without properly cleaning them.

Another reason is iritis (inflammation of the coloured ring surrounding the pupil of the eye that controls the amount of light entering into the eye).

The sixth reason is uveitis (inflammation of middle layer of tissue in the eye wall)

A few other reasons include corneal abrasion (scratch on cornea), trauma / injury to eye, head injury, cataract (opacification of the eye lens), glaucoma (eye condition in which there occurs damage to optic nerve from abnormally high intraocular pressure).

Other than this, it can occur from age related macular (macula is an area near the center of the retina) degeneration  that results in a loss of central vision.

Dry eye syndrome (a condition arising from inadequate lubrication for the tears) is yet another reason behind it.

Blurred vision can also occur in case of diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure)

Apart from above, it can arise in case of migraine with aura, Ocular migraine (migraine involving visual disturbance), temporal arteritis (a condition arising from inflammation or damage of the temporal arteries) and optic neuritis (inflammation of the optic nerve responsible for transmitting visual information from eyes to brain).

Lastly there are some very serious causes behind it that need immediate medical treatment. These include detachment of retina (in which there is tearing of retina from the back of the eye resulting in loss of its blood and nerve supply), stroke (sudden cut off the blood supply to a part of the brain) and  transient ischaemic attack (stroke lasting less than 24 hours).

Symptoms

Some other symptoms that can occur along with blurred vision includes eye pain, redness in eyes, sensitivity to light (photophobia), double vision (diplopia), spots floating before eyes (floaters), eye discharge, itchy eyes,  headache, nausea, difficulty in speech and one sided weakness. The attending symptoms depend upon the cause behind the blurred vision.

Homeopathic Medicines For Blurred Vision

There is a good scope in homeopathy to bring improvement in cases of blurred vision. Homeopathic medicines help in improving the vision as well as managing its attending symptoms like eye pain, redness in eyes, double vision (diplopia), spots floating before eyes, eye discharge, itchy eyes, headache, nausea. These medicines are helpful in cases of mild to moderate intensity arising from mild causes. While in case of severe cases and those arising from some serious cause behind it urgent help is advised from conventional mode of treatment.

It is strictly advised to use any homeopathic medicine for cases of blurred vision under the guidance of a homeopathic physician. This is because only a homeopathic physician can find the suitable medicine needed for a case after detail case study and in case he suspects the blurring of vision to be arising from serious cause then he can advise to take urgent help from conventional mode as homeopathy has limitations in treating such medical emergencies. Some of the indications that are serious and alarm to take urgent help from conventional mode are sudden blurry vision or when it is attended with dizziness, problem in walking, numbness / weakness in one side of body or the face, leg,  arm, on one side of the body, facial droop, difficulty speaking or a severe headache and eye injury.

Causes

1. It most commonly occurs from nerve damage. The nerve damage can be from various reasons. The most common reason is diabetes (diabetes neuropathy). Uncontrolled high levels of sugar in blood for a long time damages blood vessels and nerves. The nerve damage hinders normal travel of nerve signals to many body parts and also feet. Nerve damage in legs and feet refers to peripheral neuropathy. Persons who have high blood pressure, take alcohol, are overweight and smoke are at high risk of nerve damage. In case of diabetic neuropathy along with burning sensations, tingling, numbness, sharp pain, weakness in hands and feet can also accompany.  Secondly, it can arise from excessive intake of alcohol that causes nerve damage called alcoholic neuropathy. Thirdly, it can occur from certain nutritional deficiencies. Deficiency of vitamin B12, B6, folate can lead to nerve damage and burning sensation in feet. Vitamin B deficiency also causes anaemia that contributes to it. Another reason is small fiber sensory neuropathy (SFSN) which is a type of peripheral neuropathy affecting small nerve fibers in the skin. In this, painful burning arises in the feet.

2. Hypothyroidism (an underactive thyroid) is yet another reason behind burning feet. In this condition, swelling appears which puts pressure on nerves and causes a burning sensation. Other symptoms of this condition include weight gain, loss of energy, hair loss and dry skin.

3. Other than these, it can occur in Charcot – Marie – Tooth disease (CMT). A common form of hereditary neuropathy that causes nerve damage in arms and legs. Burning, pins and needles in the feet / hands is among the initial symptoms.

4. Another reason is Athlete’s foot (fungal infection of the foot). It is also known as tinea pedis. In this condition burning, tingling, itching sensation between the toes or in the soles of the feet arise. Besides, fluid-filled eruptions (blisters), cracked skin, peeling of skin, dry or raw skin on the feet may appear. Sometimes toenails get thick, discoloured, crumble and get detached from the nail bed.

5. Long term or chronic kidney disease – When kidneys get damaged and are not able to carry their function properly, means not able to remove toxins from the body, then these toxins build up in blood and damage the nerves.

6. Erythromelalgia – It is a rare vascular disorder in which blood vessels in lower limbs or hands get blocked on and off followed by hyperemia (excess blood flow) and inflammation. Redness, congestion, heat and pain in feet occur though symptoms can also appear in hands, arms, ears, legs, face and other body parts.

7. Peripheral artery disease (PAD) – In this condition, the arteries that carry blood to the legs and feet becomes narrow. It leads to burning in feet and legs.

8. Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) – A condition causing severe pain usually in just one arm or leg and develops typically after an injury or a surgery. Its symptoms are swelling, burning pain, swelling, skin colour or texture change.

9. Tarsal tunnel syndrome – It is a condition arising from compression of nerves that runs from the ankle to the foot. It can arise from swelling or an injury. There is pain, burning, tingling or numbness in the foot.

10. Guillain – Barre syndrome (GBS) – It is an autoimmune disease in which the immune cells attack and cause damage to the peripheral nervous system. In the beginning it is mostly present with numbness, tingling, and weakness in feet.

11. Some other diseases can have burning feet as one of its symptoms. Some examples include Lyme disease ( a tick-borne, infectious disease caused by a bacteria of the type borrelia), HIV, shingles  (a viral disease caused by Varicella zoster virus in which painful skin rash with blisters appears).

12. Pregnancy and menopause – Burning feet may be complained about by some women during pregnancy and menopause. This is due to hormonal changes leading to increase of body temperature.

13. Heavy metal poisoning can also cause it. Exposure to heavy metals like arsenic, mercury and lead can lead to burning sensation in the feet.

14. Side effects of certain medicines like chemotherapy drugs, some medicine used to treat HIV and seizures (fits), overdose of vitamin B6.

15. It can also occur from wearing poor footwear and standing/walking for an extended time period.

12 Homeopathic Medicines For Albuminuria

Albuminuria refers to a condition in which albumin (a type of protein) abnormally passes in the urine. Albumin is a major type of protein made in the liver that normally circulates in the blood. Homeopathic medicines for albuminuria mainly play a supportive role in managing such cases.

Albumin is the most abundant and significant protein in the blood circulation. It helps in maintaining the right amount of fluid flowing throughout the body and acts as a carrier for fatty acid, thyroid hormones and steroids. The protein should remain in blood and never enter urine under normal circumstances. But when the protein albumin abnormally seeps in the urine it is referred to as albuminuria.

The kidneys function to filter the blood in the body. When blood passes through the kidneys it keeps the things required by the body like protein but eliminates the things not needed out of the body as urine. The kidneys have got glomeruli which act as filters. When functioning normally, the protein cannot pass through the filter and enter urine  or a very little trace of protein can pass in urine. But in case of damaged kidney excessive albumin can leak out of the kidneys into urine.

CausesHomeopathic medicines for Albuminuria

Some of the conditions that cause a temporary increase of albumin in urine includes dehydration, stress, intense physical activity, cold weather, fever and side effects of some medications.

Furthermore, the medical conditions that can lead to rise of albumin levels in the urine. First among them is diabetes, hypertension (high blood pressure – B.P.), kidney inflammation – nephritis, glomerulonephritis (inflammation of the glomeruli which are the structures made of tiny blood vessels in kidneys that filter blood), nephrotic syndrome (a kidney disorder in which body to pass too much protein in urine).  physical trauma to the kidneys, cardiovascular disease like endocarditis (inflammation of the endocardium which is the inner layer of the heart). These medical conditions need urgent medical help as these can result in severe complications like kidney failure.

People with diabetes, high blood pressure, elderly people above age of 65 yrs, individuals having family history of kidney disease are at high risk of albuminuria. Such people need to get tested for urine albumin quite frequently so that any kidney damage is detected and managed in time and further complications be prevented.

Types Of Albuminuria

Microalbuminuria

It denotes the start of kidney damage with moderate increase in the albumin levels in the urine. When kidney damage is slight the albumin passes in urine in small  quantities ( around 30mg to 300mg within the twenty four hour time frame ).

Macroalbuminuria

When kidney function is greatly affected there is excessive passing of albumin in the urine denoting macroalbuminuria.  The kidney allows passage of large amounts of albumin into the urine (more than 300 mg within the twenty four hour time frame). It indicates a serious kidney condition.

Signs

It is mostly asymptomatic in the beginning stages. But when there is passage of a large amount of albumin in urine, there maybe some signs that give an indication towards it. First among them is urine having whitish foam or urine looking frothy. Next sign is swelling of the ankles, hands, eyes, face, legs, belly. The swelling occurs when abundant albumin passes in urine and results in low levels of protein in the blood. The low protein levels in blood leads to movement of fluid through the blood vessels walls into tissue.

Homeopathic Medicines for Albuminuria

Cases of albuminuria need immediate medical attention to prevent serious complications. Homeopathic medicines mainly play a supportive role in managing cases of albuminuria. These medicines can be used along with conventional treatment for halting its further progression. Additionally they help in reducing oedema (swelling ) linked with it. Other than these homeopathic medicines also work towards managing  associated symptoms like burning / painful urine, frequent urine, scanty urine, kidney pain. Albuminuria can have serious effects on the body and can lead to kidney damage. So one should use homeopathic medicines along with conventional treatment, that too under supervision of a homeopathic physician and never self prescribe any of these medicines.

Angioedema is a harmless condition in most cases and gets well in a few days. However, in serious cases the tongue that can cause blockage of airways and difficulty in breathing that needs prompt medical help. Severe angioedema may be a part of a dangerous medical condition called anaphylaxis needing emergency treatment. Anaphylaxis is a severe allergic reaction in which there appears swelling of lips, tongue and throat that blocks airways and leads to breathing problems, rapid heartbeat, sudden drop of blood pressure, dizziness and sometimes fainting. Anaphylaxis is a severe life threatening condition that should be urgently treated with conventional treatment.

Causes

It most commonly arises from an allergic reaction and this type is known as allergic angioedema. The allergic reaction can occur from certain foods like eggs, peanuts, fish, shellfish and milk. This reaction can also occur from insect bites, pollen, animal dander, latex and poison ivy. The body detects a substance (like any of the above) as something dangerous. Following this there is release of histamine by the body that causes dilatation of the blood vessels and fluid leakage. In severe cases of allergic angioedema, anaphylaxis can occur with swelling of throat, difficulty in breathing and sudden drop in blood pressure. It is a medical emergency needing immediate medical help.

It can also arise from the use of certain medicines called drug – induced angioedema. Few medicines that can lead to it include aspirin, NSAID’s (non steroidal anti inflammatory drugs), penicillin, antibiotics and some of the medicines used to control high BP (blood pressure).

Thirdly, it may occur after an infection or with illnesses like SLE (It is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks and damages healthy tissues of the body. It can affect skin, kidneys, blood vessels, lungs, heart, nervous system, muscles, bones, eyes). Another medical condition linked with it is leukaemia (cancer of blood cells). Other than this a medical condition lymphoma is associated with it. Lymphoma refers to a cancer beginning in lymphocytes which are cells of the immune system that help to fight with infection. In case of lymphoma these lymphocytes change and keep multiplying out of control.

Rarely it can occur in people having a family history of it where it is called as hereditary angioedema. Here a person has inherited this condition from a parent through genetic transmission. In hereditary angioedema the body is unable to make a blood protein called C1 esterase inhibitor in the right amount that results in fluid movement from the blood into tissues resulting in swelling.

Other than this it can arise if a person has a weak immune system where it is called as acquired angioedema.

Lastly, it can be idiopathic type where no cause is ruled out behind swelling. Some factors linked with it include stress, anxiety, intense exercise, exposure to heat and cold and minor infection.

Symptoms

Its main sign is swelling below the skin. The swelling can develop suddenly or gradually in a few hours. Sometimes it may be attended with swelling and welts on the surface of the skin (hives) that may be painful and itchy. Redness, warmth and pain can appear in the swollen area. The swelling mainly occurs on the face especially around the eyes, lips; around the mouth; hands, feet, arms, legs; tongue. In severe cases the swelling can spread to other body parts. The  swelling can also occur around the genitals and in intestines. Apart from above abdominal cramping, intense vomiting, redness irritation of eyes, diarrhoea (loose motion), weakness and dizziness can also occur. In some cases swelling appears in the throat with hoarseness, and difficulty in breathing. Homeopathic Remedies for  can be used along with conventional mode of treatment to manage the symptoms. homeopathic remedies for Guillain Barre Syndrome

Causes

The exact reason behind Guillain – Barre syndrome is still unknown. In this syndrome the immune system (that normally comes in action to destroy the microorganisms like bacteria, virus, parasites) starts to attack the nerve cells out of a misdirected response. It has multiple types and among them the most common form is AIDP (acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy). In AIDP the protective covering of the nerves known as myelin sheath is damaged. Due to this damage the nerves are not able to send proper signals to the brain and weakness , numbness and paralysis can arise. It has been found that in most cases it  occurs some days or weeks after a respiratory illness or a digestive tract infection. Persons of any age group can be affected with this but the risk increases with advancing age. Its chances are more in males as compared to females.

It can be triggered after an infection with campylobacter jejuni bacteria (most times found in undercooked poultry). Some other infections have also been associated that can trigger it. These include cytomegalovirus, influenza virus, Epstein-Barr virus (EBV), AIDS causing HIV virus,  mycoplasma pneumonia and zika virus. Hepatitis A, B, C and E, Hodgkin’s lymphoma are also associated with the occurrence of this syndrome. Apart from above other triggers linked with it are a recent surgery and vaccination.

Symptoms

In the beginning tingling sensation or weakness is felt in the feet, toes and legs. Afterwards it spread to the upper body, arms, fingers. However in some of the cases (around 10%) the initial symptoms can occur in the arms or face. With the progression of the condition paralysis may appear after muscle weakness. Rest of the symptoms that can arise includes intense pain in lower back; severe shooting, cramping pain that may increase at night; difficulty or loss of bladder control or bowel control; rapid heart rate; difficult breathing; low or high blood pressure and paralysis. There are chances of progression of the symptoms quickly  resulting in a serious condition in a matter of just a few hours in some people.

Types

This syndrome has many types. The major types are as follows :

  1. Acute inflammatory demyelinating polyradiculoneuropathy (AIDP) – in this the muscle weakness begins in the lower part of the body and ascends upward.
  2. Miller Fisher syndrome (MFS) – in this case paralysis begins in the eyes.
  3. Acute motor axonal neuropathy (AMAN) and acute motor-sensory axonal neuropathy (AMSAN)

Complications

The complications includes difficulty breathing when the weakness / paralysis involves muscles that control breathing; weakness, numbness and other sensations even after recovery;  blood pressure problems; heart problems like cardiac arrhythmias; blood clots; bedsores that can happen from long immobility; severe nerve pain; problem with bladder and bowel function.

Causes

The exact reason behind this condition is not yet clear. It is not caused by an infection and it doesn’t arise from poor hygiene. This condition is known to begin from blockage of hair follicles. It is thought that genetics play a role in it as it is seen to run in families. Next, hormonal changes are also thought to have a role in its development as it tends to start after puberty. Another factor that is linked with this condition is an overactive immune system that becomes over responsive to little infections in the clogged hair follicles. Apart from the above, other factors that are thought to be associated with development of it includes smoking, being overweight and having acne (pimples).

Women are at more risk to develop this condition as compared to men. Having a family history of this condition also increases the risk. Persons in the age group of 20 to 39 yrs are at risk.

In addition to the above, there are certain medical conditions that raise its risk. The first among them is a metabolic syndrome that refers to a group of five conditions which increases the risk of developing a heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke. These conditions include increased blood pressure, excess fat around the waist, high blood sugar, high levels of triglyceride and low level of good cholesterol. The other two are diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is a term to describe two disorders in which there occurs chronic inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. First among these disorders is ulcerative colitis and another is Crohn’s disease.

Signs and Symptoms

This condition can appear in one or several areas of the body. The most common areas involved in it includes armpits, area under breast, groin, inner thighs, anal area and between buttocks. In case of hidradenitis suppurativa red, pimple – like bumps, painful lumps, deep nodules (solid, elevated under the skin), cyst (a lump containing fluid or other substance) under the skin and boils (pus-filled bumps) can develop. The bumps can be itchy. The boil can drain fluid, pus or blood with an offensive smell. With passing time, tunnels (sinus tract) that connect lumps may form under the skin. In this condition the lumps tend to occur on both sides of the body.

The bumps keep going away and coming back. The bumps may occur on the same site every time or they may keep changing location. This condition may get worse from stress, being overweight, hormonal changes, heat and smoking.

Stages of Hidradenitis Suppurativa

This condition is classified into three stages (called Hurley stages) depending upon its severity.

Stage 1 –  In this stage ,there is single or multiple nodules / boil with little scarring and no sinus tract

Stage 2 – In this stage, there is more than one bump with little scarring and limited tunnelling.

Stage 3 – In this stage, multiple bumps with extensive scarring and tunnelling appear involving the entire area of the body

Complications

In severe cases or the cases that are left untreated, some complications can arise. First among them is infection on the affected skin area. Second is scarring / pitting on the healed part of the skin and thickening of the scar. Next is restriction of movement from painful lesions and scar mainly when it affects the axilla. In some cases fistula (a hollow passage) can form inside the body. Another complication is swelling in arms or legs when the lumps or scars (that occurs in body areas that are near lymph nodes) obstruct the drainage of lymph. Depression can occur in the person with this condition when they avoid going out in public and self-isolate themselves due to draining from the lesion and offensive smell from it. Severe and advanced cases carry a very rare chance of squamous cell carcinoma (skin cancer type).

Homeopathy for Low Milk Supply During Breastfeeding

Low milk supply during breastfeeding means a mother is not being able to produce enough milk in a sufficient quantity needed to meet nutritional demand of her baby. It is also known as hypogalactia or hypo galactorrhea. Agalactia is a term used for absence or failure of milk secretion after giving birth. Homeopathy for low milk supply during breastfeeding uses medicines of natural origin that are very safe to use without any side effects.

Homeopathy for Low Milk Supply During Breastfeeding

There are few things that don’t point towards low milk supply as lay man may relate to from misconceptions. These includes – a baby is not getting enough if he is nursing frequently, if breast isn’t leaking milk, breast suddenly became softer, baby has increase frequency and lengths of feeding session, baby is fussy, if baby takes  bottle of formula milk even soon after nursing, when women do not feel a let down sensation or on pumping very little milk comes out. They are not related to low milk supply and are not valid ways to check if milk supply is low or not.

If a baby is gaining weight when exclusively breast fed then it means the milk supply is sufficient for his growth. Some of the actual signs that indicate that baby is not getting sufficient milk needed for growth are poor weight gain, not enough wet  diapers (less than 8 – 10 diapers) in a day, have signs of dehydration (like lethargy, dark rings around eyes, sunken fontanelle, yellowish urine), getting weaker, or signs of not growing well.

Causes

It can firstly arise if breastfeeding is started late after childbirth. Next it can happen if the baby is not latching properly. It means the baby is not sucking properly to draw enough milk from the breast. If the breast milk is not removed time to time then its production reduces. Next it can arise if the baby is taking infrequent feeds or taking feed for a short time approx less than 5 minutes. This is because frequent extraction or draining of milk from breast boosts or triggers milk supply but allowing the milk to remain in the breast for long decreases milk supply. Use of pacifiers and supplementing feeding with infant formula milk unnecessarily in initial weeks also decrease milk supply. Starting breastfeeding as soon as possible after childbirth, making sure the baby is latching properly during breastfeeding, frequently breastfeeding around every 2 – 3 hrs during initial weeks, avoiding bottles and pacifiers in the early week can help in cases having above reasons.

Premature birth, jaundice, tongue tie in baby also tend to decrease milk supply because with these conditions baby can’t suck properly leading to low milk supply.

Other than above factors related to low milk supply are stress, exhaustion, not taking enough sleep, not drinking enough water, use of certain medicines (like zyrtec D),  use of hormonal pills, history of previous breast surgery, injury to breast, underdeveloped (hypoplastic breast) being underweight or obese, drinking alcohol, smoking and taking excessive caffeine.

Apart from above there can be a medical reason which is causing true low milk supply. In such cases the medical reasons have to be treated to establish good milk supply. The medical reasons include hypothyroidism (underactive thyroid), PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome), anaemia, post partum haemorrhage (Blood loss of more than 500 ml to 1000 ml of blood within the first 24 hours after childbirth), Hypopituitarism (decreased secretion of hormones by the pituitary gland), hyperprolactinemia (medical condition with deficiency of prolactin hormone). Prolactin is lactogenic hormone or milk hormone which is responsible for breast growth during pregnancy and for breast milk production after delivery for breast feeding the baby), recent mastitis (inflammation of breast), retained placenta, breast cancer,  pregnancy induced high blood pressure, insulin dependent diabetes which is poorly controlled.

7 Effective Homeopathic Medicines for Thrombosis

Thrombosis refers to the formation of blood clots in a blood vessel (either in an artery or a vein). When it forms in arteries, it is called arterial thrombosis. In this case, blood supply to tissues is obstructed leading to damage of the tissue supplied by that particular artery. When a blood clot forms in a vein, it is called venous thrombosis. In such cases the part of the body affected gets congested. There is always a chance that the blood clot or a part of it can break and be carried to some other distant part of the body through circulation. Homeopathic Medicines for Thrombosis play a supportive role in managing its symptoms, they can be used along with conventional medicine for symptomatic management and gradual recovery.

Homeopathic Medicines for Thrombosis

Causes

There are three factors that play a role in it. They include hyper-coagulability/thrombophilia, injury to endothelial cells of the blood vessel and disturbed blood flow. Hypercoagulability refers to increased susceptibility or tendency of blood to thrombose. It can be from genetics or some autoimmune disorders. An injury to endothelial cells of the blood vessel can result from surgery, trauma and an infection.

There are certain risk factors that increase one’s chances to get thrombosis. The factors that increase risk of venous thrombosis are family history of blood clot in vein, injury to vein, immobility after a surgery, being overweight, smoking and having inherited blood clotting disorders. Additionally, females during pregnancy and those taking birth control pills/hormone therapy and elderly people are at risk of venous thrombosis. If we talk about risk factors for arterial thrombosis, it includes family history of arterial thrombosis, hypertension (high blood pressure), increased levels of cholesterol, obesity, smoking, diabetes, sedentary lifestyle, elderly age and immobility as after surgery.

Symptoms

It depends on which blood vessel (artery or vein) of the body is involved and to what organs it supplies blood or collects blood. Some of the main types of arterial and venous thrombosis are as follows with its signs and symptoms:

Venous Thrombosis

Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT) is the condition in which a blood clot forms in a deep vein mostly in the vein of lower legs, thighs or pelvis but it can also form in the upper limb.  Swelling, pain, redness and heat in the affected part occurs. It carries a risk of a very serious complication called pulmonary embolism. In this case, the blood clots from the vein mostly from leg breaks and travels through blood circulation to the lungs. It blocks one of the pulmonary arteries of the lungs which is life threatening if not treated urgently. In this case shortness of breath, chest pain and cough appears. Some other symptoms like dizziness, rapid heartbeat, profuse sweating, discoloured skin and swelling, pain in the leg can appear with this.

Portal Vein Thrombosis causes a rise of pressure in the portal vein system and decreases blood supply to the liver. The Portal Vein  carries blood  from the stomach, spleen, pancreas, and intestines to the liver. People with cirrhosis of liver (severe scarring in liver), other liver disease, inflamed pancreas, and those predisposed to develop clot can get this condition. The signs and symptoms that can occur in this condition are pain in upper abdomen, swollen abdomen, fever. In severe cases the spleen can get enlarged, varices in the esophagus or stomach can develop that can lead to bleeding (vomiting of blood, bloody stool), liver pain and jaundice can occur.

Budd-Chiari Syndrome is a rare condition that mostly arises from a blood clot that narrows or blocks the hepatic vein or the hepatic part of inferior vena cava. The signs and symptoms depend upon the severity of the condition. It includes pain in abdomen, weight loss, ascites (build up of fluid in abdomen), gastrointestinal bleeding, enlarged liver, jaundice and enlarged spleen.

Renal Vein Thrombosis is a condition in which a blood clot develops in the renal vein  (that drains deoxygenated blood from the kidneys). It is not a common condition but can cause serious kidney damage. Reduced urine output, pain in lower back, blood in urine, fever, nausea and vomiting are its signs and symptoms. There are also chances of breakage of this clot that can travel to lungs.

Jugular Vein Thrombosis is very uncommon. It can occur from infection, cancer and intravenous drug use. Jugular veins are the veins that bring blood from head and neck to heart. Clots in this vein are often associated with prior venous catheterization at that site.

Paget-Schroetter Disease, which is also called upper extremity DVT in which blood clot forms in the deep vein of arms. It is a rare type of DVT that mostly occurs in young persons (men are more affected than women with this) after intense exercise or sports activity involving upper arms. Symptoms include pain, swelling, warmth in the arm along with redness or blueness.

Cerebral Venous Sinus Thrombosis is an uncommon type of stroke arising from blood clot blocking the dural venous sinus. In this symptoms that occur include pain in head, vision problem and weakness of face or one side limbs, difficulty speaking and seizure (fit).

Retinal Vein Occlusion occurs when blood flow to a central vein of retina is blocked from a blood clot that can cause critical vision issues. In this glaucoma or detachment of retina can occur.

Arterial Thrombosis

It is also called atherothrombosis. It mostly appears after rupture of fatty deposits in the wall of the blood vessel.

Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack) is when coronary arteries of the heart get blocked with plaque (made of sticky fat, calcium on which  blood cells called platelets  stick and clump together to form blood clots).  This can hinder blood flow to the heart and needs to be treated promptly to prevent permanent heart damage. Its symptoms are pain in the chest felt as tightness, a squeezing sensation or pressure that mostly radiates  to the left arm, shortness of breath, sweating, anxiety, fast heartbeat, dizziness, nausea and vomiting.

Thrombotic Stroke is classified as a medical emergency. In this a blood clot cuts off blood flow to one of the arteries of brain arteries leading to death of brain cells of that part where blood supply is blocked. The signs and symptoms of stroke are weakness/numbness or paralysis of arms, face, legs, problem in speaking, blurred vision, difficulty in walking.

Limb Ischemia occurs when a blood clot in limbs causes hindrance in its blood supply. Its symptoms are pain, abnormal sensation in limb. The limb is pale and is cold to touch. In late stages numbness is there. Gangrene (death of tissue cells) from loss of blood supply can occur.

Homeopathic Medicines for Thrombosis

Homeopathic Medicines for Thrombosis play a supportive role in managing its symptoms. One can use these medicines along with conventional medicine for symptomatic management and gradual recovery. It is to be noted that thrombosis can have serious consequences so any homeopathic treatment should be started after detailed case analysis. In acute conditions where the symptoms are indicating risk of serious issues like heart attack, stroke, pulmonary embolism etc, it is strictly advisable to take immediate help from conventional mode of treatment. Homeopathic medicine should be preferred for mild to moderate cases with small sized clots and when there are none of the symptoms that indicate any medical emergency. They can also be used to manage residual symptoms that remained after acute condition but that too along with conventional medicines. Following are some of the well indicated homeopathic medicines for blood clots but any of these medicines should be taken after consulting homeopathic physician and self medication should be avoided.
