Carbuncle is much more than just a simple abscess, boil or furuncle. It occurs when multiple hair follicles gets infected. It is usually deep and forms a lump. It works well in treating recurrent carbuncles. Euphorbium is indicated in old indolent ulcers with biting and lancinating pains. Lachesis is best suited for carbuncles that are bluish and purplish in surroundings.
What is Carbuncle?
A carbuncle is an infection that occurs in the deep layers of skin and has an involvement of multiple hair follicles, which are infected. The most common bacterial agent that leads to this infection is Staphylococcus Aureus. It may form a lump with collection of pus, fluid and dead tissue in it. It may occur anywhere but is common on nape of the neck and back.
What causes carbuncle?
Exact cause of carbuncle is not known but poor hygiene, friction of clothing and injury while shaving and overall poor health are the contributing factors.
What are the symptoms of Carbuncle?
Carbuncle appears a raised lump initially. There may be redness around it with pain on touching. Gradually it may grow in size( it can range from the size of pea to a golf ball ) and cause significant pain. it may develop a pus point and may start oozing pus and blood . It may even spread to different areas. Fever and fatigue may be present.
Complications of Carbuncle
Sepsis is one of the major complications that can occur due to carbunculosis. In sepsis the infection from the carbuncle enters the blood stream. An immune reaction to the bacteria may lead to endocarditis.

Hepar sulph 6c helps when pus started & patient doesn’t allow you to touch the region.
Problem is that there is swollen boil of diameter 3-4 cm. with pain and multiple openinings of pus in the front portion of neck. Although I have taken antibiotics but the lower portion of the carbuncle is red and hard, onlyvthe top portion consists of openings for pus which has ejected with few droplets. But still it is swollen in red colour. Please recommend the remedies.

I am 35 yrs male, DIabetese patient having Carbuncle at triangular area above the penis. It has now an opening about a coat button size. Puss can be seen as upper skin is dead. it is very painful and the pain can be felt also in the back side at my waiste.

I has been 5 years since brutal head injuries to skull top and sides with bat , coma ,after year are so ,kept telling neurologist something else was wrong, he kept saying,it’s part of head injury, I felt like when they took staple out of my head something really changed and it just wasn,t getting better….finally second opinion of different neurologist ( i thought my skull was cracked or something) , “you need a dermatologist” ,went to wound car specialist , diagnosed carbuncelnlious , my head was so bashed up ,i had hair growing backwards and every direction…..went through all the oral antibiotics ,all the way to zolox, all seemed to at first then nothing …like the carbuncules fighting back … finally went on the intravenous , after 10 days , got blood clot from pick line incersion , back in hospital, iv antibiotic 7 days, seemed like it was drying it up ….. dermatologist came in at hospital , recommended treatment for yeast infection and fungus ,,, wound care & hospital doc, agreed to try it ….2 months later back to where it was , plus my insurance ( crime victims assistance) wouldn’t pay dermatologist….back to wound care Dr. , only giving me mupirocin&gentamicin sulfate topicals applied together… the topicals have never done a thing that I can tell ….wound care not ready to put me back on intrvieniuos antibiotic yet since didnt finish with the blood thinners …. but that is the next step the wound care doc has next….

Last December 2012 I have experienced boil, it went back 3 times on Jan, Feb and March. The last time I had a boil, I treated it with Amoxiclav 500 mg.
