Periodic Limb Movement Disorder : How Homeopathy Can Help

It refers to a condition in which there occur repetitive twitching or jerking movements of the legs and sometimes arms during sleep. The movements occur about every 20 to 40 seconds. These may continue for minutes or hours during sleep. There are numerous homeopathic medicines for periodic limb movement disorder that are prepared from naturally occurring substances that can be very helpful in treating this condition.PLMD Homeopathy

It is also considered a sleep disorder because this movement disorder occurs specifically during sleep and disturbs the sleep resulting in sleepiness during day time. It is also sometimes called periodic leg movement during sleep (PLMS).

Causes

PLMD is classified as primary and secondary. The exact reason behind primary PLMD is still not known. It is often linked with disturbance in the nerve regulation that carries messages from the brain to limbs, but there are no specific studies that confirm this link. This type is uncommon. In the case of secondary PLMD there is often a link to an underlying medical problem. First medical condition linked with it is anaemia (a condition in which there are not enough healthy red blood cells that can carry sufficient amounts of oxygen to the body tissues). Second condition is narcolepsy (a chronic sleep disorder in which the sufferer has intense drowsiness during the daytime and has sudden attacks of sleep. They have difficulty staying awake for a long time period and can sleep any time at any place irrespective of the circumstances and surroundings).
Next medical condition is restless leg syndrome (RLS) which is a neurological condition characterised by irresistible desire to move the legs due to unpleasant sensations felt in the legs that occur specifically in the evening or at night time while sitting or lying down. Another condition is diabetes mellitus.
Lastly, OSA means obstructive sleep apnea is linked with it. It is a serious sleep disorder in which there occur momentary pauses in breathing several times during sleep.

An injury to spinal cord or tumour of spinal cord are also linked with. Some other factors that can contribute to it include deficiency of iron, use of certain medications like antidepressants, anticonvulsants, and antihistamines. It may also follow after stopping use of sedatives like diazepam.

Symptoms

Its main symptom is repetitive movements in one or both the legs during sleep. The movements  occur during the non rapid eye movement phase of the sleep. During movement the bending of hips, knee, ankle, or big toe may occur. The movements may be slight or strong like kicking. The movements occur every 20 – 40 seconds.

It can sometimes even occur in the arms also. The movements may lead to poor, restless sleep and sleeplessness. Persons with it may wake unrefreshed and in day time they have excessive sleepiness. It may lead to tiredness, irritability, poor memory, concentration problems, behaviour issues and poor performance at school or work from sleep problems. Some people with this disorder may also complain of symptoms of restless leg syndrome (RLS). It is to be noted that around 80% of people with RLS also have PLMD. People with it may not be aware of the leg movements and are only noted by bed partners.

Though it can occur at any age but is common in middle aged and elderly people. Both men and women are equally affected with this condition.

10 Effective Homeopathic Medicines for Epigastric Pain

Epigastric pain refers to pain in the middle of the upper abdomen immediately below the ribs. This pain may simply be arising from mild reasons like overeating, eating heavy or spicy food. In some cases it may also occur from inflammation of the food pipe/ esophagus (Esophagitis) and hiatus hernia (it occurs when the upper part of the stomach bulges through the diaphragm (a muscle that separates abdomen and chest). Barret’s esophagus is also a reason for it. In this condition there is change in the mucosal cells lining the lower part  of the esophagus from stratified squamous epithelium to simple columnar epithelium with goblet cells. It can lead to cancer of the esophagus.

Peptic ulcer disease is another cause behind it. In this case there occurs damage to stomach lining or small intestine lining.  Apart from above this may arise in case of inflammation of pancreas, gallbladder or liver, in case of gallstones and from drinking too much alcohol.

Hemifacial Spasm – Homeopathic Remedies Can Help

Hemifacial Spasm is a nervous system disorder characterised by involuntary twitching of  muscles on one side of the face. These result from irritation of the facial nerve that causes involuntary muscle contraction. Another name for these spasms is tic convulsif. Homeopathic remedies for hemifacial spasm help in relaxing the muscles and provide relief in this condition.hemifacial spasm

Initially there occurs twitching of the eyelid, mouth or cheek muscles and with time these spread to other areas of the face and in some cases the entire face.

Causes

The facial muscles are under the control of the facial nerve. This nerve carries signals from the brain to facial muscles to cause its contraction or relaxation. But if something causes irritation of this nerve or puts pressure on this nerve, then it can affect the nerve signals that are being carried to the face. Then it can lead to twitching or contraction of muscle at other times when they are not supposed to contract.

Mostly it arises when a blood vessel touches a facial nerve. Other than this it may also happen from a tumour putting pressure on this nerve. Also, injury or damage to the facial nerve may also be a cause.

In many cases there is no specific cause.

In very rare cases it may be an initial symptom of multiple sclerosis (An autoimmune system in which the immune cells attacks and damages the myelin sheath that covers nerve fibers).

Both males and females can be affected with hemifacial spasm. But mostly women above the age of 40 years are affected with it.

Symptoms

The main symptom is involuntarily twitching of muscles on one side of the face. They mostly start in the eyelid known as blepharospasm. The intensity varies and in starting mostly these are mild twitches and with advancing time can become more severe. In severe cases they may cause complete closing of the eye from spasm. Anxiety and tiredness tend to worsen the twitching. Initially the twitches tend to come and go but with time they may become continuous.

Afterwards the twitching involves other areas of the face of the same side. These include cheeks, eyebrow, parts around the mouth, lips, jaw, chin and upper part of the neck. The spasm may pull the mouth to one side.

Sometimes these twitches involve all the muscles on the entire one side of the face. The spasms may also occur during sleep. The left side of the face is usually more affected as compared to the right side.

Some symptoms that can accompany are pain in ear usually behind the ears, ringing noises in ear and difficulty in hearing.

Types

These spasms are characterised under two forms – typical and atypical form. These spasms are said to be typical when the spasm starts in the eyelid and afterwards spreads to the lower part of the face.

Improving Blood Circulation with Homeopathy

The circulatory system of our body carries blood, oxygen and nutrients to each and every part of the body. But in case the circulation is poor, the blood doesn’t reach properly to tissues depriving them of oxygen and nutrients required for normal functioning resulting in certain symptoms. Homeopathy for blood circulation offers a supportive help in these cases to improve blood circulation and give symptomatic relief along with conventional treatment.

Homeopathy for blood circulation

Poor circulation commonly occurs in limbs like legs and arms.

Causes

Poor circulation is not a disorder but arises from some of the health issues.

It can arise from various causes. First among them is atherosclerosis. It arises when plaque  builds up in the artery arteries causing its hardness and narrowing of lumen. It leads to a decrease in blood flow. It can affect arteries of the heart, brain, legs and arms. Atherosclerosis can lead to peripheral artery disease (a circulatory problem in which blood flow to the limbs is decreased due to narrowing of the arteries).

Second reason is a clot in a blood vessel that can restrict blood flow to the organs. The clot may cause partial or complete blockage of blood flow. Blood clots can form in any of the body areas. If a blood clot forms in arms or legs then then it carries a chance to travel to vital organs like heart (causing heart attack), lungs and can also lead to stroke (death of brain cells from decreased or interrupted blood supply to a part of brain depriving it from getting oxygen and nutrients)

Third cause is diabetes mellitus. High blood sugar levels for a long time can lead to damage of blood vessels and plaque can build up in these vessels.

Next reason is varicose veins (twisted, enlarged and engorged veins). This happens from weakening or damage of the valves of veins. It results in backward blood flow and blood pooling in the vein resulting in stretching and twisting of the veins. Any vein in the body may be affected with it but usually they occur on the back of the legs.

Another cause is being overweight (it compresses blood supply through the whole body. Persons who are obese are at more risk of poor circulation if they remain in standing or sitting position for a prolonged period. It puts them at risk of varicose veins, high blood pressure). Lastly it can arise from raynaud’s disease In this disease there occurs narrowing of the small arteries in the hands and toes. Its symptoms usually occur when the sufferer is in a cold temperature or under excessive stress.

Symptoms

Its main symptoms are numbness, tingling or pin needle sensation in the hands and feet. Next is coldness in the hands and feet.

Another symptom is pain of throbbing or stinging nature in the limbs. Other than this there may occur cramps in the limbs (hands, feet, arms, legs). Skin colour changes may also occur. Due to low amount of arterial blood to body tissues the skin may look pale or blue, or purple

Next swelling and ulcers can occur in the lower limbs. Fatigue is also seen sometimes. Other than this symptoms depend on which part of the body has sluggish blood circulation. For example poor circulation to the brain can impact its functioning resulting in dizziness, memory loss, concentration issues, headache and fatigue. If circulation to heart is poor it may result in chest pain, breathing difficulty, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat. When circulation to Kidneys is reduced it may result in edema of hand, feet. Women may have irregular menstrual cycles and fertility issues if the blood supply to the female reproductive system is reduced. Men may face complaints of erectile dysfunction (inability to get or maintain an erection for sexual intercourse) in case of poor blood flow to the genitals.

Homeopathy for Blood Circulation

Every person might have experienced cold feet at some point in life. The coldness may be felt internally in the feet or the feet may be cold to touch or both.
