Do You have a Weak Urine Stream? Try Homeopathy

A weak urine stream is a very common problem, especially in elderly people aged above 50 years. Though it can occur in both men and women, it occurs more commonly in males. A weak urine stream indicates that the bladder is not getting emptied properly. When a person has difficulty initiating or maintaining urine flow, it is medically termed which urinary hesitancy. Weak urine stream can arise due to various reasons, among which benign prostate enlargement (BPH) and urinary stricture (narrowing of urethra through which urine leaves the body) are the main causes. Weak urine stream can be attended with other symptoms as well depending on the cause behind it like dribbling after finishing urine, frequent urination, discomfort in the lower abdomen, sensation of incomplete emptying of bladder, and pain while urinating. If not diagnosed and treated well, the condition may worsen and lead to urinary retention (means complete inability to urinate). Urine retention that occurs all of a sudden is a serious health issue needing immediate medical help.

Homeopathic Management

Homeopathic mode of treatment carries a great scope to manage cases of weak urinary stream. Homeopathic medicines aim to correct the underlying cause behind the thin urine stream to give great relief. These are natural remedies that treat this condition with zero side effects. Along with a weak urine stream, they also manage any associated symptoms present. These medicines are recommended for mild to moderate cases where no associated complication is present. In case of acute urine retention, one should immediately take help from conventional mode of treatment as homeopathy has limitations in treating such critical cases.  Homeopathic prescription for weak urine stream varies from case to case based on the cause and characteristic individual symptoms, so one should take homeopathic medicine under the supervision of a homeopathic doctor and avoid self–medication.

What is Dermatographic Urticaria and how does Homeopathy treat it effectively

Dermatographic urticaria, also known as dermatographia or dermatographism, refers to a skin condition where scratching the skin causes a reaction leading to the appearance of raised, inflamed lines called welts on the skin. It is one of the most commonly occurring types of urticaria. Another name for this condition is ‘skin writing’. It causes an allergic kind of reaction on the skin with signs and symptoms including raised lines (pink, red, purple in color or same color as that of the skin) on the skin resembling writing or welts (raised bumps) on the skin along with redness, itching and swelling. It may also be warm to touch and burning sensation may be felt. The symptoms appear within minutes of a trigger factor and the duration of symptoms is around 30 minutes. In rare cases, the duration may extend to a few hours to one day or even more than that. The signs and symptoms get worse at night in most cases. This condition is not contagious (means does not spread from one person to another via direct skin to skin contact).

What Causes Dermatographic Urticaria?

The real reason behind it is unknown but it is thought to occur from the release of histamine from mast cells on the skin surface. Here though no antigen (a foreign substance that triggers an immune response by the production of antibodies) is present, histamine may cause wheals (raised bumps on the skin) and swelling. This may happen when the immune system by mistake recognizes scratching or pressure on the skin as an allergen and sets off an allergic response by sending histamine to the affected area to get rid of an allergen. Histamine causes dilatation of the blood vessels and leakage of the fluid into the skin from small blood vessels causing swelling on the skin.

Another theory is that an allergic reaction may happen when the membrane of the mast cells is very weak that tends to break easily from pressure and cause allergic type of reaction. Some of the triggers that can set off this kind of reaction include scratching of skin, rubbing of the skin as from tight clothing, pressure on the skin as from wrist watch/ belt/any jewelry item, vibration, stress, an infection, cold/heat exposure, exercise, air blowing on the skin causing movement of hair on skin, bathing with warm water and taking some sort of medicines like penicillin. Persons having dry skin, those suffering from or having a history of atopic dermatitis (a skin disease that cause inflammation, redness and itching on skin) or allergies, thyroid issues, or family history of this type of urticaria, are at risk. Teenagers (13 yrs to 19 yrs) and young adults are most likely to be affected by this skin condition. Usually, no complications are linked to it, but sores caused by it can get infected with bacteria or fungus sometimes.

Homeopathic Treatment

Homeopathy proves very effective in numerous skin complaints. One among these is dermatographic urticaria that can effectively be treated under the homeopathic mode of treatment using a very gentle approach. Homeopathic remedies moderate the overactive immune system (that gives exaggerated response to some of the triggers resulting in skin reactions) and bring relief in such cases. These medicines help in managing acute episodes of urticaria as well as function to overcome this type of urticaria naturally with zero side effects. These medicines gradually reduce the intensity and frequency of the episodes of this type of urticaria. Along with healing the welts, they also help to manage any associated symptoms like itching, burning, stinging and pain in welts. Homeopathic medicines are selected individually for every case of urticaria keeping into consideration the triggers like scratching, heat or cold exposure, exercise and attending symptoms like itching, burning. Though these medicines are safe to use, it is advised to take any medicine after getting your case completely evaluated by a homeopathic doctor and avoid self-medication.

Top 9 Homeopathic medicines for UTI in women

Urine infection or Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) can trouble a lot of women. Though men also get urine infections, women are four times more at risk of acquiring UTI than men. Urine infection happens when bacteria gain entry into the urinary tract via urethra and start multiplying in the urinary bladder. The most common bacteria that tends to cause urine infection is Escherichia coli (E.coli). Urinary tract infection can occur in any part of urinary tract. When infection occurs in the urethra and the bladder, it is termed as lower urinary tract infection. Infection involving the ureters and the kidneys is referred to as upper urinary tract infection.

Why are women more at risk of urine infection? First among many reasons is that urethral opening in the females is very close to the anus. Due to this, bacteria around the anus easily travel to the urethra. Second is the urethra in women is short as compared to men. So the bacteria have to travel less distance to get into the bladder from the urethra. Next, use of diaphragms (for birth control) or spermicidal (contraceptive substances that destroy sperms) agents also increases risk. Sexual activity can also be the cause in young sexually active women. Some women are predisposed to frequent urine infection initially after marriage. This is termed honeymoon cystitis. Besides these women around menopause also are more predisposed to get urine infection. The reason is decrease in estrogen levels that leads to certain changes in the urinary tract that heightens UTI risk. The symptoms include pain/ burning sensation during urination, frequent urge to urinate, urgency to pass urine, pelvic pain, strong smell from urine and cloudy or bloody urine. In case of upper tract UTI symptoms include fever, chills, pain in the upper back and sides, nausea and vomiting.

What Causes Stomach Pain Due To Gas?

Gas enters the stomach unnoticeably by swallowing air while eating or drinking anything. Excessive air is passed out of the mouth as burps. Gas is also naturally produced during the digestion process. Gas is produced in our intestines when bacteria break down the undigested carbohydrates. There are certain food products that cause excessive gas production like high-fiber food which includes fruits, beans, vegetables; dairy products; carbonated drinks like soda. Besides some medical conditions can lead to excessive gas production and pain. These are as follows:

1. IBS (Irritable Bowel Syndrome) – A disorder of the large intestine that leads to changes in bowel habits i.e. diarrhea, constipation or alteration between diarrhea and constipation, gas, bloating and stomach cramps.

2. Celiac disease – A gastric disorder in which eating gluten (a protein present in wheat, rye, barley) triggers a immune response that causes damage to small intestine. The signs and symptoms include gas, stomach pain, bloating, diarrhea, fatty stool, anaemia, and weight loss.

3. SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth) – It is a condition arising from an increase in the number of bacteria in small intestine, specifically bacteria that are not commonly present in the gastric tract. The symptoms include diarrhoea, gas, bloating, abdomen pain, loss of appetite and unintentional weight loss.

4. Lactose intolerance – In this condition a person is unable to digest lactose present in the milk due to deficiency of enzyme lactase. It results in diarrhea, fatty stool, gas and bloating.

5. Crohn’s disease – One among the two diseases of the IBD (inflammatory bowel disease) that cause inflammation in any part of the gastrointestinal tract. It results in gas, bloating, abdomen pain, diarrhea, weakness and weight loss.
