Diarrhea refers to passing loose, watery stools many times a day (three or more times a day). Diarrhea is a very common problem among children and can affect children of any age. It can be acute or chronic. In acute cases diarrhea lasts for 1 or 2 days. In case of chronic diarrhea, complaints last for a few weeks or more. Homeopathy for diarrhea in children works well in mild to moderate cases.

Causes

It can arise from various reasons. Firstly, it can arise from infection of the gastrointestinal tract (gastroenteritis). The infections can occur from viruses (like rotavirus), bacteria and in rare cases, parasites also. Among them, viral infections are the most common reason.
It can also arise from food poisoning and use of medicines like antibiotics and laxatives. It may also arise in case of food allergies or food intolerances.
Certain medical conditions may also cause diarrhea, like Celiac disease (an autoimmune disease in which eating gluten which is a protein found in wheat, barley and rye triggers an immune response that causes damage to the small intestine’s lining and prevents proper absorption of nutrients from the food).

Navel (known as umbilicus and belly button) pain can be felt behind the navel or around the navel. Depending on the reason the pain may be felt in this area or may radiate to the other body areas like chest and legs. The pain can be constant, mild or dull. It may be intermittent or severe. Navel pain can arise from various reasons. The reasons vary from common/minor (like gas, constipation, indigestion) to rare and serious ones (like appendicitis). Homeopathic treatment of navel pain helps to treat the underlying cause behind it and bring great relief in the pain.

Causes

It can arise from indigestion also called Dyspepsia. Indigestion is a term to describe fullness or discomfort in the upper abdomen. In this case discomfort, pain or burning from the upper abdomen can radiate to the region of navel. Other symptoms that can attend from indigestion include gas, bloating, nausea, vomiting, fullness after eating even a small quantity of food, heartburn, excessive belching (burp).

Hidradenitis suppurativa is a chronic skin condition in which small, inflamed painful lumps form under the skin. The lumps can break open and release fluid or pus that can have an offensive smell. The tunnels can also form under the skin from connection of these lumps. This skin condition usually occurs in areas where the skin tends to rub together like in armpits, the area under breast or groin (the crease area where the upper part of the thigh and the lower part of the abdomen meet). Causes

The exact reason behind this condition is not yet clear. It is not caused by an infection and it doesn’t arise from poor hygiene. This condition is known to begin from blockage of hair follicles. It is thought that genetics play a role in it as it is seen to run in families. Next hormonal changes are also thought to have a role in its development as it tends to start after puberty. The first among them is metabolic syndrome that refers to a group of five conditions which increases risk of developing heart disease, type 2 diabetes and stroke. The other two are diabetes and inflammatory bowel disease (IBD). IBD is a term to describe two disorders in which there occurs chronic inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract. Signs and Symptoms

This condition can appear in one or several areas of the body. The most common areas involved in it includes armpits, area under breast, groin, inner thighs, anal area and between buttocks. In case of hidradenitis suppurativa red, pimple – like bumps on skin, painful lumps, deep nodules (solid, elevated under the skin), cyst ( a lump containing fluid or other substance) under skin and boils ( pus filled bumps) can develop. The bumps can be itchy. The boil can drain fluid, pus or blood with an offensive smell. With passing time tunnels (sinus tract) that connect lumps may form under the skin. In this condition the lumps tend to occur on both sides of the body .

The bumps keep going away and coming back. The bumps may occur on the same site every time or they may keep changing location. This condition may get worse from stress, being overweight, hormonal changes, heat and smoking.

Stages of Hidradenitis Suppurativa

This condition is classified into three stages (called Hurley stages) depending upon its severity.

Stage 1 – In this stage there is single or multiple nodules / boil with little scarring and no sinus tract

Complications

This medicine is specifically indicated for scleritis in case of rheumatic joint inflammation. The symptoms indicating its use are pain in eyes, tearing from eyes, and sensitivity to light.

Scleritis Following Eye Injury

When scleritis follows eye injury then the prominent medicines to deal with it are Aconite, Arnica, Ledum Pal and Symphytum. These medicines help to recover from effects of injury and reduce inflammation, redness of the eye. They also help to bring relief in the pain and soreness in the eye in these cases in a very effective manner.

Causes and Risk Factors

The exact reason behind it is unknown. But there are theories that suggest it is autoimmune in origin where the body’s immune cells attack and destroy the body’s own healthy tissues. In scleritis T-cells (that are normally meant to fight and destroy disease causing organisms that enter the body) start to attack and destroy eye’s scleral cells. The reason why the T-cells start this destruction is not clear yet.

Women are at more risk of developing scleritis as compared to men. Persons having any of the following conditions are at risk of developing scleritis:Rheumatoid arthritis – It is an inflammatory disorder of autoimmune origin causing joint inflammation with pain, swelling and stiffness of joints.

Sjogren’s syndrome – An autoimmune disorder that mainly presents with dry eyes and a dry mouth.

Systemic lupus erythematosus – In this immune system attacks healthy tissues of the body in many of the body parts.

Scleroderma – A group of diseases in which the skin and connective tissues tighten and harden

Wegener’s granulomatosis – A disorder that causes inflammation of the blood vessels

Inflammatory bowel disease – It includes crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. In this there is long term inflammation of the lining of the gastrointestinal tract.

Symptoms

The main symptom of scleritis is severe eye pain. The eye pain gets worse from eye movement. The pain may extend to face, head, or jaw. The eyes may also be tender to touch. There is marked redness of white of the eye (sclera). The sclera may also have purple or bluish tinge in some cases. Other symptoms that appear are excessive tearing from eyes (lachrymation), photophobia or sensitivity to light and decreased / blurred vision. In case of posterior scleritis eye pain from eye movement, double vision, deep – seated headaches and irritation in eyes appear.

Types of Scleritis

It has broadly two types – anterior and posterior.

Anterior scleritis: in this the front portion of sclera is inflamed and it is the most common form of scleritis. In most of the cases it is related to an underlying autoimmune disease. It further has following types:

Diffuse scleritis – it is very common and easily treatable. In this there is inflammation of sclera throughout the front part.

Nodular anterior scleritis – in this there is formation of one or more immobile, firm tender nodules in sclera

Necrotizing anterior scleritis with inflammation (it is the most serious one) and necrotizing anterior scleritis without inflammation.Posterior scleritis – In this type the back portion of sclera is inflamed. It is rare form of scleritis. In this usually no autoimmune disease is related. It can cause complications like retinal detachment and angle closure glaucoma

Symptoms of Angular Cheilitis

The signs and symptoms in this condition appear at the corners of the mouth. Red spots develop at the corners of the mouth initially, particularly in mild cases. These spots may be attended with swelling. As the condition progresses, cracks begin to appear at the corners of the mouth. Bleeding may also arise from these spots. While in many other cases blisters (fluid-filled eruptions), ulcers, scaling, crusting may appear at corners of mouth. Irritation, itching and pain of varying intensity may appear in affected skin areas. With the above, a few other symptoms can appear. These include dryness of the lips, burning sensation on lips/in the mouth and bad taste in the mouth. In case of excessive irritation difficulty in eating may arise. The symptoms may last for just a few days or persist for a long time making the condition chronic. In chronic cases pus may form in the lesions at the corners of the mouth. When it develops from bacterial or fungal infection then the infection can spread to the adjoining skin area of the face. In some cases it can also cause oral thrush (fungal infection of the mouth).

Causes of Angular Cheilitis

Angular cheilitis can occur due to various causes, the most common among which are infections. The yeast Candida Albicans is a major cause. It usually begins from the collection of saliva at the corners of the mouth as a result of which this area remain moist for quite a long time. On evaporation of saliva dryness, cracks, irritation and pain starts appearing at this site. A person may then lick the lips frequently to reduce the dryness, irritation and pain. It will again make the corners of mouth moist and warm which gives an ideal environment for fungus to grow there.

Apart from this certain virus and bacteria can also cause it. The bacteria involved in causing it mainly includes staphylococcus aureus and beta – hemolytic streptococci. If no cause is found behind it then the case is referred to as idiopathic angular cheilitis.

Risk Factors

An overhanging of upper lip – It causes deep angles at the corners of mouth and increases the chances of saliva to pool in these areas making it constantly moist. It leads to softening and breaking of skin and also favours growth of fungi.
Oral thrush – it is a fungal infection in the mouth that predispose a person to angular cheilitis
Allergic tendency – Allergies to certain products like toothpastes, lipsticks, lip balms, chewing gums and from material used in dentures can cause allergic contact dermatitis in the angles of mouth
wearing braces or dentures – it plays are role if they are poor fitted and have associated receding of gums
Having sensitive skin
Certain habits like repeatedly licking lips and/or sucking the thumb
Excessive salivation and drooling
Sagging skin around mouth from weight loss or ageing process increases the chance of saliva collection in the angles of the mouth
Use of certain medicines: Side effects of some medicines, like the excessive use of corticosteroids, antibiotics and use of oral retinoid medication like isotretinoin employed in treating pimples can be contributing factors
Smoking
Nutritional deficiency of iron and vitamin B have been linked with angular stomatitis.
Some medical conditions including diabetes (it causes weakening of the immune system making a person prone to yeast infection), inflammatory conditions like ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease, anaemia, genetic condition like Down’s Syndrome and infection near mouth like cold sores.

Salivation

Secondly, it is useful to manage the complaint of increased salivation (ptyalism). Persons requiring it have excessive salivation especially while sleeping. The saliva is thick and stringy and may be bad tasting and offensive. In some cases it tastes metallic, like copper.

Oral Thrush

This remedy also works very well to treat oral thrush i.e fungal infection in mouth. In such cases it works well when mouth is red and inflamed. Further, small ulcers are present in the mouth. Stomatitis

In cases of stomatitis (mouth inflammation), it helps to reduce redness, swelling of mouth and healing the blisters/ulcers. Further it helps ease the pain, burning, and pricking sensation in the mouth associated with stomatitis.

Tooth and Gum Complaints

His remedy effectively manages complaints of cold, coryza and sinusitis.

In cases of coryza with sneezing, the symptoms to note are fluent discharge from the nose, itching, burning in nose from discharge. The discharge may also be of greenish offensive pus. Additionally, the nostrils are red and. raw It is also helpful to manage the complaint of crust formation in nose that bleeds on cleansing nose.

Next, it is beneficial to treat sinusitis. In such cases mucus trickling in throat from the posterior nares is a major complaint. Other symptoms include hoarseness of voice, dry cough and tearing pains in forehead and cheeks.

It is also a renowned medicine for treating sore throat, enlarged and inflamed tonsils. Main features for its use are pain in the throat, tonsils especially when swallowing and it often radiates to the ears. If we look at the throat, it is red, swollen with dark red tonsils frequently studded with ulcers. The person may complain of rawness, roughness and a burning sensation in the throat. There is increased salivation with above symptoms. It is also a top grade medicine for managing cases of quinsy with suppuration (pus formation) in tonsils. In such cases sharp, sticking , stinging pain is prominent along with pus formation.

3. Ear Complaints

This medicine works well to treat ear complaints including earache, ear discharges (otorrhoea) and ear infections.

Persons needing this medicine have soreness, tearing, throbbing, stinging or shooting pain in ears. The pain usually worsens at night or in warmth. Burning sensation in the ear may be present.

Other than this, this medicine is useful to treat ear infection with discharge. The discharges are specifically pus-like, yellow, green and offensive. Sometimes the discharge is blood-stained, and there my be itching and pain in the ears with roaring noises.

4. GIT (gastro intestinal) Complaints

When it comes to the GIT, this remedy has a definitive action to reduce the inflammation of intestine and rectum. It is also one of the most effective medicines to manage the complaint of blood and mucus in stool. If we see therapeutically, it shows remarkable results in cases of ulcerative colitis (disease with inflammation and ulcers in large intestine and rectum) proctitis (inflamed rectum), dysentery (intestinal infection that leads to severe loose stool with blood, sometimes mucus).

Persons needing it have watery, green / yellow, frothy, slimy stool. It is accompanied by excessive blood and mucus in stool and occasionally undigested food particles. They have continued urge to pass stool. A “never-gets-done” feeling persists even after passing stool for a number of times. It results in intense weakness. Another complaint that they have is pinching and cutting in abdomen before and during stool. Other symptoms are burning in anus, pain in rectum, nausea, vomiting and marked chilliness.

5. Vaginal Discharges (Leucorrhoea)

This medicine can help treat vaginal discharges (leucorrhoea) in females and is prescribed when vaginal discharges are yellowish, greenish in colour, sometimes blood-stained too. It causes intense itching and biting in genitals especially at night. Itching of genitals gets worse from contact of urine. In most cases, a violent burning appears after scratching the parts. It is a majorly used medicine for treating vaginal infections and vaginitis with presence of above symptoms.

6. Male Complaints

This is an important medicine to treat orchitis (inflammation of testicles.) Here it is useful to reduce the inflammation and pain in testicles. It also helps relieve drawing sensation in the groin and spermatic cord. It proves to be an excellent medicine to treat inflammation of testicles, related to gonorrhoea.

Next, it is indicated to treat gonorrhoea with greenish, purulent discharges. Along with discharges male have burning in forepart of urethra. Their prepuce and glans are intensely swollen, red.

Other complaint where it is helpful is vesicular (fluid filled) eruptions or ulcers on forepart and sides of the glans penis. They tend to ooze fluid of yellow white colour, with a strong, offensive odour. Burning on the penis and sweat on the genitals is also present.

In addition to above, this remedy is majorly used for Balanitis where there is extreme swelling and pain in the glans and the prepuce. In few cases small vesicles appears on the glans and prepuce with oozing of fluid and burning sensation. Foreskin is sore and there may be yellowish pus in drops.

7. Urinary Complaints

When it comes to urinary complaints, this remedy is recommended to treat cases of polyuria (frequent urination), painful / burning urination, blood in urine (haematuria), urinary tract infection (UTI), and overactive / irritable bladder.

The key features to use it in urinary issues are increased frequency of urination and marked urgency to urinate where person must hurry to pass urine. The frequency of urine is increased both day and night. There is also flow of urine in a thin stream, sometimes only drop by drop. Violent burning in urethra on beginning to urinate also appears with above symptoms. Mucus or blood may appear in urine. Another peculiar feature is strong, offensive smell in urine.

8. Skin Complaints

This homeopathic medicine can take care of many skin issues. First among them is skin itching, where there is itching that is most troublesome at night. The itching is violent, intolerable and person is obliged to scratch it intensely. The itching shifts from place to place.
